Yaya those are gorgeous!
and just to be clear - I was only posting the side-by-sides for yours. Judith was the one who added the 9 patches that made it look so nice.

sewhappy30 12-22-2012 06:44 PM

Happy New Year Blue Robins. We're just a little closer to our flimsy's making there way home.

Just an up date, I have TamMoo's top here visiting me. Will soon take it out and put it on my design wall. Will soon try my first round choice for this round and see how it works out.

Hope yall had a nice Christmas and a safe New Years. See yall "next" year.

jillnjo 12-31-2012 02:35 PM

Happy New Year to you, too! I am getting ready for a birthday party for the little lady in my avatar! She is 6 today and wouldn't want her special day to be forgotten!! Her dad's birthday is today also. I will soon be picking up on the next round! Nancy.

Dragonfly Nana 12-31-2012 04:51 PM

Happy New Year to you all. Nancy, so glad you are making the day special for her and her dad. My birthday is also today and I remember what it was like when it got "shuffled in" with all the other festivities this time of year.
I cut the fabric I am going to use for Karen's today and hope to be able to do some sewing for it tomorrow.

Tam...Moo 12-31-2012 05:49 PM

I have Judith's center....it is so amazing...I am brainstorming on what to add!

Dragonfly Nana 01-01-2013 09:23 AM

I have a favor to ask - Do any of you ladies have embroidery machines?

I would love to replace the plain white circle in the center of my top (when it comes home) with an embroidered dragonfly.

Opinions please - is this too "simple" for my round?
I am trying to bring the "star" from the center back into the quilt and the blue fabric just seemed to do it without needing other embellishment.
Please be honest - I have not sewn it yet so I can still make changes.

Looks perfect. It does seem to make the center pop!

Judith1005 01-01-2013 02:07 PM

Paula, I think it looks great!! You should maybe just place 1 cutout star on the border just to see how you like it. I really love the fabric.

And, Happy Be-lated Birthday!! I hope you had a special day.

jillnjo 01-01-2013 02:34 PM

Paula; I think your choice looks good! I would also try laying the stars on the border and just see what they may or may not add. Happy Birthday!

Thank you for the Birthday wishes.
I should have posted this pic with the others. I am not sure that these stars really add anything.
Should I try to find a different star shape - maybe and 8 point like the center?

Dragonfly Nana 01-01-2013 03:44 PM

Note: the stars shown are rough cut for applique - I would trim them to true points for the final sewing.

Judith1005 01-01-2013 03:58 PM

Paula, I like the stars on the corners. Not all over the border. I love the red polka dot border you added.

I have a simple embroidery machine. I could probably play around with a dragonfly that you can add when it's my turn to work on your center. I get you top last. (I think Tam Moo might have one also. But, I could be wrong.)

Dragonfly Nana 01-01-2013 04:31 PM

Judy - I knew you would love the red polka dots! :) I am going to play around with a couple other star shapes too, but I think I agree about only putting them in the corners.

Thanks for the offer Judy. Anything you could do would be appreciated. The white center of mine is only about 4" so it would be hard to do any applique in that small of a space - hence my request for help. My eyes are as old as I am and small pieces are not as easy as they used to be and my hand stitching skill are almost non existent.

I think it would be cool to have the dragonfly be in the colors of the quilt (blue, green, and purple) just like the label on the back will be done.

jillnjo 01-01-2013 04:58 PM

I do like the little stars. The whole border you are working on puts a different spin on the feel of the quilt! It makes me think of a starry night or a galaxy, which I think looks great. The style of stars you show add to that feel.( Rather than an eight pointed star like the center). I really think it looks great, but what does yaya like? N.

bgullett 01-01-2013 05:07 PM

Nice job ladies, can't wait to see each piece as it progresses.

Judith1005 01-01-2013 05:22 PM

I really like the scrappy feel Yaya's quilt is taking on. I hope she does too. Paula, thanks for the dimensions on your center. I will start looking for a pattern I like. (Small patterns, I can do.)

Dragonfly Nana 01-02-2013 02:59 AM

Thanks Nancy and Judy. Yes, I am curious what Yaya has to say about my idea too.

yayaquilts 01-09-2013 09:03 AM

Hi all!

Happy New Year! Can't believe how fast these first days of the new year are flying by. We just got back from a destination wedding at the Treasure Island Hotel in Las Vegas and are getting ready to head to Indio, CA for an RV Rally today. I just got my Christmas decorations packed back into their storage boxes yesterday. I haven't had one minute to sew since the Thursday before Christmas, so needless to say, I haven't started the border for this round (and I thought I'd be less busy after Christmas to complete this round).

Anyway, with that being said, I will not make the new deadline for mailing by the 10th. I'm so sorry mine will be late. I will work on it as soon as possible after this trip (won't have any time to sew so I'm not even taking any sewing with me). I will try to mail it by the 15th or 16th.

Love how my center is evolving! I actually never really imagined any borders on it so each one has been a nice addition. I like the fact that each round is a beautiful "surprise" from each of you creative Robins!

Dragonfly Nana 01-09-2013 03:19 PM

Karen, glad to know that you like what we have done to your center. I am ready to ship on to Gena when she is ready to receive it.

jillnjo 01-10-2013 06:48 AM

Good Morning, friends! I am so excited with how Gena's quilt is coming together! I love her quilt, maybe you fall in love with something that you look at every time you sit down to sew and it is on the wall in front of you. Anyway, I have everything ready to sew together and the stars are done, but I'm waiting on the day that I have the time. I've been helping my daughter with some sewing and it seems like my weeks fill up with winter activities. I am getting ready to make a "shed quilt" for my garden shed. Can't decide on the quilt block I am going to use.
I think Gena's round for me is not due until March 10th, if my calculations are right? It is my third round, and I could be confused! Or is it due Feb. 10? I plan to be done with it soon, whatever the deadline is!

Andii 01-10-2013 09:14 AM

I'm not in the group but I have to ask, Jillnjo, what is a shed quilt? Is is to put on the outside of a greenhouse/shed or is it to put over plants on the inside? I've never heard of this...enquiring minds want to know.:)

jillnjo 01-10-2013 11:09 AM

Andii~ It is actually the same thing as a barn quilt! They are made of sheets of plywood that are 8ft. by 8ft. square and painted with a chosen quilt block pattern, then put on sides of barns. But mine will be smaller and placed on my garden shed. I've always wanted one and you can google how to make them, which is what I did.
I must have sounded very confusing as I reread what I posted and I see why you ask what you did! :).

The border I added is complete and I will put it in the mail tomorrow. I hope you like it...I just love the 1930s prints more each time I see them and of course turquoise is my favorite color.

Oohhh Tammy I like what you added to it. Very nice.

Judith1005 01-14-2013 01:41 PM

OOoo, Tammy, I love what you've done with your round. I love the tie in to the red on Paula's round. I am so excited. It just keeps getting better and better. I will be working on your RR top this week. I'm excited to get started.:)

mimiknoxtaylor 01-14-2013 01:48 PM

jillnjo 01-16-2013 10:56 AM

But we are having FUN, aren't we?:D Thanks for your compliment and I think we are all creating some special rounds! I will send it on to you one of these days~I'd like to show it to my mother as she seen it before my round and is trying to understand what it is all about! Unless you are ready for it now? That's fine, just let me know.

Dragonfly Nana 01-16-2013 12:10 PM

Oh Nancy that is stunning! I think Gena is going to flip over your addition.
I love how all of these are turning out. I will try to do more side-by-sides tonight.

Judith1005 01-16-2013 03:09 PM

Hey Nancy, Keep it and show your mom. Send it on when your ready. I still have to put my round on the top I'm working on.
