I know right, it's crazy fun, and with all the generosity from others I'm so over whelmed with joy and excitement. I told my dbf that the mail carrier is going to be working overtime in the coming days, and he said she's going to yell across the station and asked him why I'm getting all this mail! LOL

As I get blocks done, I'll be posting my progress and every piece from everyone will be in, no square left behind. The bigger the quilt the better, I can make it into a queen size. Thank you to everyone who is making this possible!

niizh 07-31-2011 03:17 PM

Yes, I am near mountains, about 12 miles from VA line. Think it is about two hours from Durham

HummerGardenCrafts 07-31-2011 04:19 PM

You are really not too far from me!

HummerGardenCrafts 07-31-2011 04:31 PM

I looked at the map and you are a bit farther than what I though. If I'm looking right. We have kin people around Hickory, Lenoir and Nebo NC.

Winkee 07-31-2011 04:32 PM

Looks good!

I looked too it's about 4 hrs or so. We've been to WV a couple years ago, I forgot the name of the town though. Been to the bridge (forgot the name of that too)

HummerGardenCrafts 07-31-2011 05:05 PM

You are talking about New River Gorge Bridge. I'm not too far from Pipestem State Park. In fact, I've worked on the Bluestone Dam in Hinton. They are trying to make it into a hydro dam.
Did you get to stop by the Tamarack in Beckley?
My husband has worked on the Gorge Bridge. I've never had the pleasure yet.

HummerGardenCrafts 07-31-2011 05:07 PM

Do you remember Ghent on I-77, Winter Place Ski Resort turn off? I'm around 45 min. from that.

barnbum 07-31-2011 05:12 PM

That is so pretty.

Crafty1 07-31-2011 05:13 PM

That's the bridge! Beckley sounds familiar, my friend who lives in VA now is from WV, not sure where. When we were in WV my dbf took me around where he grew up, his father goes memorial day weekend to visit. Hey, when we go again I'll let you know!

4girlsmimi 07-31-2011 05:19 PM

I love your postage stamp quilt beginning. By the sounds of all the replies you have received, you should be receiving more than enough little squares to keep you busy for a long time to come. Be sure to keep us posted on your progress. I have a bunch of my squares cut, but haven't started sewing them together yet. Good luck with yours. it is going to be beautiful and special because of all the donated squares from fellow quilters. Can't wait to see it completed!

craftymatt2 07-31-2011 06:07 PM

i love your quilt, that sounds tedious but fun, i guess i should try and make one. Wishing you continued success on your quilt.

Tessb 07-31-2011 09:20 PM

Oh thank you, I just learned something new.

That would be great!!!

marla 08-01-2011 03:02 PM

Love this and your colors. I can' wait to see the whole quilt.
If you are having trouble with the snowballs, take it to your LQS and they shhould be able to show you how.

sarahconner 08-01-2011 04:43 PM

I like it. Let me know if U need any little sqs?

galatotesa 08-01-2011 04:59 PM

I like it. If all else fails, look for pockets (that wouldn't be Missed) on garments.

Well, another day and another three more blocks! Yay!

Quiltnmo: I received scraps from you! Thank you! I'll post pics when I get them into the block so you can hunt for them :)

Please excuse the sideways pics, (I can't flip them) and I don't have a design wall so I used part of the cabinet.

Oh wow! Just look at you go. You are really doing a great job and moving super quick on yours. Now you have me motivated to get started on mine. I had it tucked away in a box. I'm going to go get it tomorrow from my quilt house. I will post pics of my progress too!
You are just sewing each block up aren't you? Not using anything to sew them down on?

sarahrachel 08-01-2011 06:24 PM

I think what I like most about this kind of quilt is that if the squares don't exactly line up, it's ok (not saying yours isn't perfect Crafty1!!) but when you stand back and look at it, you aren't going to notice unless it's off by a lot, but a smidge isn't going to matter I don't think

and amazing blocks you keep on truckin with this quilt!!

HummerGardenCrafts 08-01-2011 06:42 PM

Maybe I can catch up with you. I answered your PM. Maybe if you like the Cathedral Window, we could do one of those next and swap charms.

Well mine dosn't all line up either, but as you say unless your on top of it, you really don't see it, but it's a fun quilt to make, awesome job. Mailed you squares yesterday.

Squares went out today, you are making great progress! I am almost finished with my Farmer's Wife Quilt which I completely hand pieced....would this one be fun to hand piece?

Thank you! I haven't tried hand piecing, but I don't see why I wouldn't be fun. Go for it :)

MargeD 08-02-2011 10:59 AM

Looks like you're doing a great job.

Wunder-Mar 08-02-2011 11:24 AM

These scrap quilts are just the best - beautiful!!!

HummerGardenCrafts 08-02-2011 02:43 PM

Got my box of squares hunted out. And guess what I found. Two different sizes of spools already cut out to sew together. And some candy bar blocks. These are just a certain size strip. Now I have 4 tops that have to be started.

Crafty1 08-05-2011 02:15 PM

Just wanted to thank you all again as I've been receiving packages this week! I've been chain piecing and trimming the squares and got 1 more block done so far today. This weekend I'll start working on what you all sent and post pics of the blocks, then you can hunt for them :)

Also, this afternoon I got to meet fellow board member mcb1180, yay, we swapped some squares!

First I wanted to do a French braid, that idea came and went because I couldnt find the "right" fabric in my stash. The next day, I started to cut out pieces from my scraps the come quilt with me snowball templates. Well couldnt figure out how to piece it. The next day I started to cut strips for a baby quilt for my niece (shame on me as I have not completed anything yet for her and all I have left to do is the binding on the first one I did). So that brings me to yesterday as I took scraps and started to piece randomly but that idea also came and went.

And finally today, I came up with the idea to start my postage stamp quilt that's on my list to do. After about 12 hrs, here's what I did, one block  :) the pile I still need to do brings me to nine blocks but I need 24 so it will be 48x72. I'll check under the bed & another bin of scraps. Then I might cut into the yardages and FQ's (last resort), and/or buy more scraps. My goal is to have one of each print! Can I do it? Keeping my hopes up and months to accomplish this goal, yes I believe I can do this!

My daughter says "good luck with that" lol hahaha

Looks good so far! Keep at it. Hope my squares help. And I'll put aside any more doubles I get and save them for you. Maybe we can meet up again in a week or two?

You're crazier than we are. Hand piecing a postage stamp quilt (of any size squares) is pure insanity when there's a sewing machine nearby.
