Well sort of. My mind has been frazzled all week!

First I wanted to do a French braid, that idea came and went because I couldnt find the "right" fabric in my stash. The next day, I started to cut out pieces from my scraps the come quilt with me snowball templates. Well couldnt figure out how to piece it. The next day I started to cut strips for a baby quilt for my niece (shame on me as I have not completed anything yet for her and all I have left to do is the binding on the first one I did). So that brings me to yesterday as I took scraps and started to piece randomly but that idea also came and went.

And finally today, I came up with the idea to start my postage stamp quilt that's on my list to do. After about 12 hrs, here's what I did, one block  :) the pile I still need to do brings me to nine blocks but I need 24 so it will be 48x72. I'll check under the bed & another bin of scraps. Then I might cut into the yardages and FQ's (last resort), and/or buy more scraps. My goal is to have one of each print! Can I do it? Keeping my hopes up and months to accomplish this goal, yes I believe I can do this!

My daughter says "good luck with that" lol hahaha

start of postage stamp!

luckylindy333 07-29-2011 05:47 PM

They used to call that a charm quilt- if you don't have any duplicates, it has some sort of charm on it- it's magic!

Anyway, I still love it, even if there are any duplicates!!!

klc 07-29-2011 05:49 PM

Great idea! And, great start.

puddingtain 07-29-2011 05:49 PM

Love it...is it a 12 inch square?

Teddybear Lady 07-29-2011 05:49 PM

What size blocks do you need? I could spare a few. haha

Crafty1 07-29-2011 05:50 PM

Well, I just measured the block and it's 12 1/4, the squares are 1x1 finished. Errrr am I calculating wrong.... it's been a long day, i thought it would come out to be 12 1/2 x 12 1/2 unfinished.

normasews 07-29-2011 05:51 PM

This on my to do list as well. Your block looks great!

blueangel 07-29-2011 05:51 PM

bluteddi 07-29-2011 06:02 PM

ur better than me.. my "postage stamp " quilt is still in the box/collecting stage.

I don't consider it a UFO ( since I've really not started sewing a stitch yet) its more of a " my someday quilt"

I have days.. ( many freq) that I get distracted and move from project to project.....

keep working, ur doing great

Crafty1 07-29-2011 06:04 PM

Thanks everyone for the compliments and help!

buddy'smom 07-29-2011 06:16 PM

I have one started but have to say I do have some doubles in mine, but using 2" squares for mine. I most likley have a box with over 1,000 -2" squares in it.

emerald46 07-29-2011 06:17 PM

Ooohhhh I like that name charm quilt! I may change it to that since my boyfriend works for the po and he just said hum, you're making it that small, lol. But that's what the block is called.

Crafty1 07-29-2011 06:26 PM

Thanks everyone for the help! It will definitely make it special!

fabric whisperer 07-29-2011 06:27 PM

wow, that will be a labor of love ~ sorry you struggled with the other ones, but I think this one will be a winner :)

sammygirlqt 07-29-2011 06:50 PM

That will be a great quilt. I have lots of cut squares and would love to share some with you. PM me your address and I will get some out to you.

It is fun to help a fellow quilter out with a project.

djg 07-29-2011 06:57 PM

Send me a PM and I have some I can send you.

HummerGardenCrafts 07-29-2011 06:58 PM

Oh, I love that!!! Now I'm inspired to do me one. Wonder if I can make a big one with no repeats! That might be hard to do. But it might not be. If I start a certain color like for the corner of one side. And work the colors diagonal. And do different colors every so many rows. I think that would be pretty. But bet I will get mixed up doing it that way. So I might end up doing it like you did. I think mixed up is so pretty too!

djg 07-29-2011 06:58 PM

Send me a PM and I have some I can send you.

sarahrachel 07-29-2011 06:58 PM

Unfinished squares are 1 1/2 inches right? I have some of those cut for a different quilt, but need to pay some forward. If you want all different ones, I can pull one of some of them out. send me your address and I'll send an envelope of them out for you

HummerGardenCrafts 07-29-2011 07:11 PM

I have a few squares I started cutting. I can't wait to start one. I have a friend that has started one. I can't wait to see hers. I don't know how big hers will be when she is done.
Does anyone know if there is a swap going on for the 2 1/2" charm squares?
PM me if want.

Bubblegum0077 07-29-2011 07:13 PM

Colorful, keep going. Just find scraps and go from there. It will grow bigger before you know it. Don't stop.

Sewfine 07-29-2011 07:21 PM

Beautiful.

sammygirlqt 07-29-2011 08:33 PM

Just a thought that might help you, have you considered using the pellon that comes with premarked squares? You have done such a great job on sewing all those little squares, I just thought this might be easier and go faster.

Tessb 07-29-2011 09:41 PM

I like this, but why do you call it a postage stamp? Are the pieces random or is there an order, ie: values, colors, patterns, etc.

No I haven't thought of that, thanks! Silly question, how do you sew the squares on?

exactly! I cut some pieces for her and some for my own jacob's ladder, and I decided I would never be able to do a postage stamp quilt. I don't have enough fabrics to do that or the patience, but I applaud anyone who does!
