Rustic Carpenter's Star/Wheel

3 Attachment(s)
This one was finished up before Christmas, as my gift in my "adopted" family exchange/swap. There is always a theme, and for the second year, it was "something I made". My goodness what hidden talents we discovered both years!!

To make something quilty, was given for me ... but what??? Not knowing who would be the recipient called for a somewhat generic item choice. Likewise for colours/fabrics. I decided a simple natural colour palette would be a "safe" choice for most of the group. With the squares finishing at 3", I felt it would be practical as a table topper or a wall hanging, offering to add a hanging sleeve, should it be of interest.

Thank you for looking!!
(and thanks to my QB friend who kindly reminded me that I had yet to post this!)

That's a very handsome wall hanging. I like the bronze-y brown-y fabrics.

Anael 02-11-2014 01:41 PM

Great wall hanging/table topper! I'm not a brown person but I love the design :) Your FMQ is looking good!

Beautiful QuiltE, another winner for you

QuiltE 02-11-2014 01:50 PM

Oh Oooooooooooooh ... I see that I have a double pic in there.
And now to late to take it out.
So Sorry!!!!

Awwwwwwwww thanks, Ladies!

I wish I had some better pics of it. The fabric had a nice sheen to it.
Both the rust and the background cream fabrics were Stonehenge.
The rust had a little bit of bling.
The print was just one that was in "inventory"!
And yes ... all came from my stash!!! :)

me quilt and quilting and love the earthtones

Beautiful in those colors. Carpenter's square is one of my favorite patterns.

Thanks DebCavan ... I can see why it is a favourite. I have only made two in my sewing life. The first was one of the first things I made when I started quilting. I tend not to re-make things, but I can also see its merit in being a nice give-away. For those who do not have quilts, it really is an attractive pattern that most really do like.

works4me 02-11-2014 02:35 PM

Lucky recipient. It's beautiful. Too pretty to cover up as a table topper, IMO.
I'll have to add that pattern to my very large quilting bucket list. :)

QuiltingNinaSue 02-11-2014 02:51 PM

Beautiful, QuiltE. Love the fabric, piecing, pattern, and the quilting. Perfect!

What an excellent gift!

QuiltE 02-11-2014 04:11 PM

Thanks Everyone!!! ... I really appreciate all your positive comments and feedback.
Just wish I had some better pics, but can't go back and re-do them, when I do not have it any longer.

W4Me ... I think of tabletopper as what you put on for decoration between meals ... and sure, if you want to eat on it, OK. Knowing me, I would probably flip it to the backside as it was an all over darker print that coordinated, but would be great camouflage for sloppy eaters!! :):) Yes, indeed add it to your list ... and easy one, and I can see you already thinking of the fabric possibilities! :):)

LindaMRB ... thanks for the thanks re the close ups, but that duplicate shot was kindof overkill!! :D

Beautiful quilt, love the colors, and you've reminded me that I have some lovely paisley that would make a wonderful carpenter's star.

Nanny's dollface 02-12-2014 04:35 AM

Very pretty quilt and the colors remind me of crunching leaves in the fall. I really like the carpenter star ..one if these days I will venture out and make one. Yours is very nice!

While not a brown lover, I do like this very much. Way cool.

QuiltQtrs 02-12-2014 02:32 PM

Beautiful ... and colors absolutely appropriate for "Carpenter's" Wheel block.

works4me 02-12-2014 03:35 PM

QuiltE - When I think of a table topper, I think of Grandma's doily in the centre of the table with flowers or candle holders or some antique piece of glassware sitting on it. Before the two kitties, that's exactly what we had on our Duncan Fyfe dining table - doily with an antique glass bowl on it. I do NOT think of a placemat - perish the thought.

QuiltE 02-12-2014 04:05 PM

DHMom ... me-thinks it would go with your Spikes?

W4Me ... I'm like you and think of a tabletopper doing the same thing as your doily ... a decorative centrepiece on the table, with or without something on top of it. Gosh, I even have "real" doilies around my home, doing just that!!!

All ... how nice that so many of you are enjoying this tabletopper.
When I finished making it, I was so tempted to keep it for myself and make something else! I hated to say good-bye to it, but was happy as to who ended up with it in the gift swap. It went to a good home and will be enjoyed and well cared for! :)

Grandma Peg 02-12-2014 04:05 PM

Very nice!
