He's a scrappy kind of guy so I thought this scrappy quilt would suit him. It's to be a large lap throw (twin size-ish) as he's a tall guy.
So I'm finally making the strips today using a dark denim to pull it all together...and it's just not working for me. It seems way too busy and loud to me. Is it as bad as it seems? I just don't know what to do. I can't imagine tearing it all apart but I don't know if it's going to get any better as I sew in the rest of the denim strips. Any ideas? 8-)  |
I hope you continue. I like it a lot!
The dark background ties it together and I think it is decidedly masculine, not a bit cute, sophisticated without being artsy-fartsy or pretentious. It's full of recycled materials but not scrappy in the sense of 'a lotta old stuff which has colors and might work if you don't look too close'. It has a clear motif and color balance. Being recycled fabric is a blessing for this quilt, not a burden. Now I've said all that, I'm a quilting newbie but with no lack of opinions! |
I really it like it.....A manly man quilt......Very nice....!! Keep on sewing....When it's finished you're going to be glad you kept going...

Don't judge the top by the unfinished pieces. I think it will be wonderful.
