It was also March 15, 2011 BOM here on the QB:

if any one wants to try it, the link has two star patterns...this particular one is the Alaska Star (which Dorian pointed out).

MommaDorian-
Can we see it with a half-dropped block so they're offset, with thin red sashing?

Are those actual blocks or are you playing around in Photoshop again? ;-)

yonnikka 07-14-2011 11:27 AM

Black is too severe; your blue is distracting--too bright; Red is very nice, and white is gentle and lovely. Have you thought of a very narrow black inner combined with the Red; or a narrow red with a wider White?

AgapeStitches 07-14-2011 11:29 AM

MTS, She sent me pics of actual blocks...I have been playing in Paint with them.

Rose_P 07-14-2011 11:31 AM

With no sashing new patterns emerge, and it's very interesting, but maybe a little too busy. I think I like the narrow white best, although before I saw the narrower version I preferred the red. Or maybe you could do narrow white sashing with red cornerstones. I love that block design!

OK, I'm playing in EQ. ;-)

I'd probably go for the red - but much narrower. And the idea upthread of combining 4 without sashing is interesting.

Or what to do they look like with a thinner sashing but dropped a half-block? Or on point?

I'm for anything that avoids the ubiquitous squares in a grid layout. ;-)

I agree ... the thinner sashing looks better.
I'd also been thinking of on point ... and wondering about filler blocks of the print.

And totally agree ... avoid squares, and head to on point

Cool! Thanks for the link!

QuiltingJaguar 07-14-2011 11:56 AM

Outstanding! I would go with thinner red shashing.

ruck9085 07-14-2011 12:09 PM

I agree with Lisa. the red looks best to me. Great blocks, very pretty.

Sewlmatesister 07-14-2011 12:10 PM

I like the red too!

Yosamitesa 07-14-2011 12:10 PM

Red or black! :)

Lightening1957 07-14-2011 12:22 PM

I like them all, maybe use them all in it. Just a suggestion.

Linda B 07-14-2011 12:24 PM

Add my vote for the red. Love that block.

Ditto on the red!!

They all look good to me.

KyKat 07-14-2011 01:10 PM

Red. Red. Red. Love it.

I agree

Jammin' Jane 07-14-2011 01:18 PM

I like the thin red sash!
Show us when you are finished!

FirstQuilt 07-14-2011 01:19 PM

I'm with you-- thinner border. But who am I to say since I'm in the minority: I like the blue!

Gramma B 07-14-2011 01:24 PM

I like the red!

stitchofclass2 07-14-2011 01:32 PM

Not an expert on this, but I love the secondary block that you get when you do not use sashing. I love it!

flowerjoy 07-14-2011 01:41 PM

That is hard to tell...I love your blocks... the black makes the block-work stand out more, which is beautiful... however the blue is very pretty and so is the red... If you are trying to match the quilt with some other color in a room (i.e. blue or red) I would use the matching color... but I really like the black as I think it features the blocks best... will be a beautiful quilt.

I like the background white the best. Gorgeous blocks. Don't ya just love how nicely you cn make really sharp points with paper piecing?

jackied 07-14-2011 01:48 PM

gorgeous blocks. I like the red or white myself.

EasyPeezy 07-14-2011 01:53 PM

Much better with the narrower red sashing. I like it.

I agree, I actually can't decide on what color, but I think the sashing really needs to be narrower. Like about 1/2 of what is pictured.

blueangel 07-14-2011 02:11 PM

I like the red.

grannyp70 07-14-2011 02:18 PM

I love your block, I really like the blue one, and the red one. But I am sure what ever you decide will be beautiful. My first choice is blue.

sewlo 07-14-2011 02:51 PM

I love the block!!

mollymct 07-14-2011 03:20 PM

Red or white!

mona202 07-14-2011 03:29 PM

red

Linda71 07-14-2011 03:47 PM

I like the red

DawnMarie 07-14-2011 04:08 PM

I'd say black first. The red is my second favorite.

justlooking 07-14-2011 04:33 PM

Love the blocks, I like the red shashing the best.

I agree. After I saw the narrower sashing, white became my favorite and red my 2nd choice.

Vivian Ketron 07-14-2011 04:54 PM

I like the red best. They would all work though.

Robin57 07-14-2011 05:00 PM

I like the red and then the white. What beautiful blocks!

paulswalia 07-14-2011 05:34 PM

I agree with Rita - no shashing - there's a secondary pattern that develops without sashing.

angiecub 07-14-2011 05:48 PM

Definitely the red--beautiful quilt!
