Here are a couple of mock ups that AgapeStitches put together for me. Which do you like? Or should I do it without sashing?
|
I like the red the best. I love the block itself, very beautiful.
|
I personally like the red! IMO, the black has nothing to tie it in with the blocks. White would be my 2nd choice. Seems to me the blue dulls the quilt too much.
Edit: I wonder if a slightly narrower sashing would make a difference? Seems to me that the sashing width almost overpowers the very intricate blocks. Maybe a red sashing width more in keeping with the width of the red in the blocks? |
Nice, red or white
|
red
|
Black or Red sashing look the best IMHO. what pattern is that? it is very striking & I like it!
|
If you're going to use sashing, I'd agree that the red is the best. But I think the blocks are super without sashing as well. Maybe a compromise -- cluster the blocks with 4 together, then sashing in between those large squares.
This block is amazing. How many pieces are in it anyway? How many have you made? You are dogged, Mamma! |
IMHO I would love to see the secondary pattern develop without sashing. I love the red sashing and I would use that as an inner border. However there will be as nany opinions as quilters so do what makes you happiest.

I like the blue, red or white... not the black
Beautiful block! |
i vote for the red
|
red or white.
|
Beautiful. I thimk I like the white first and the red second. Beautiful either way
|
I agree with many already that if you use sashing, the red is great. I think it would look great without sashing as well. Or put 4 blocks together to make a larger block and then the sashing. And a narrower sashing might also be something to consider. These blocks are just wonderful!!!!

Red
|
i like the red makes it pop
|
Love the block. And I think the red or white would look stunning. You did a excellent job on those blocks. Very nice.
|
I'm in the minority here but I like the blue best. The white dulls it and the
black and red distract too much from the beautiful blocks. JMHO. :-D It all depends on what look you're after. |
I too like the red best. beautiful blks.
|
Those are really pretty blocks. Have you decided yet? I can't wait to see the results.
|
I really like the red, & white comes in second! Beautiful block.

I would have to say red (but that is one of my favorite colors)! You may want to go a little thinner than what is pictured.
Awesome block too! |

I like the red or white.

I remember these! The blocks look fabulous.
I'd probably go for the red - but much narrower. And the idea upthread of combining 4 without sashing is interesting. Or what to do they look like with a thinner sashing but dropped a half-block? Or on point? I'm for anything that avoids the ubiquitous squares in a grid layout. ;-) |

This block is amazing. How many pieces are in it anyway? How many have you made? You are dogged, Mamma! Here are some with skinnier sashing and one without any sashing. |
Either the red or white but red would be my choice.
|
white blue then red

Red makes the quilt pop. Black & blue really does nothing for it.
White would be my second choice. |
I read all the threads and agreed about red, and thinner sashing but now that I see it without sashing ... I like the secondary pattern of no sashing.
Very nice block! I have one of Carol's books - gonna have to see if this block is in it. Love the block! |
