Here are a couple of mock ups that AgapeStitches put together for me. Which do you like? Or should I do it without sashing?

LisaGibbs 07-14-2011 10:15 AM

I like the red the best. I love the block itself, very beautiful.

Prism99 07-14-2011 10:16 AM

I personally like the red! IMO, the black has nothing to tie it in with the blocks. White would be my 2nd choice. Seems to me the blue dulls the quilt too much.

Edit: I wonder if a slightly narrower sashing would make a difference? Seems to me that the sashing width almost overpowers the very intricate blocks. Maybe a red sashing width more in keeping with the width of the red in the blocks?

Pam Perry 07-14-2011 10:17 AM

Nice, red or white

qbquilts 07-14-2011 10:17 AM

red

pinkypig 07-14-2011 10:18 AM

Black or Red sashing look the best IMHO. what pattern is that? it is very striking & I like it!

LeslieFrost 07-14-2011 10:18 AM

If you're going to use sashing, I'd agree that the red is the best. But I think the blocks are super without sashing as well. Maybe a compromise -- cluster the blocks with 4 together, then sashing in between those large squares.

This block is amazing. How many pieces are in it anyway? How many have you made? You are dogged, Mamma!

ritamaew 07-14-2011 10:18 AM

IMHO I would love to see the secondary pattern develop without sashing. I love the red sashing and I would use that as an inner border. However there will be as nany opinions as quilters so do what makes you happiest.

I like the blue, red or white... not the black
Beautiful block!

QuiltnNan 07-14-2011 10:19 AM

i vote for the red

MadQuilter 07-14-2011 10:22 AM

red or white.

patd 07-14-2011 10:22 AM

Beautiful. I thimk I like the white first and the red second. Beautiful either way

karenm36 07-14-2011 10:23 AM

I agree with many already that if you use sashing, the red is great. I think it would look great without sashing as well. Or put 4 blocks together to make a larger block and then the sashing. And a narrower sashing might also be something to consider. These blocks are just wonderful!!!!

Those are lovely blocks and well done. I too wonder about the cluster effect of 4 together? Then what about a flange around in the raspberry pink? then the red?

For sure, the red is the choice of the ones you have shown.

Teapots and Quilts 07-14-2011 10:23 AM

Either the red or the white.

Jim's Gem 07-14-2011 10:25 AM

I like the red or white as well!

cwo3112 07-14-2011 10:25 AM

Lindsey 07-14-2011 10:25 AM

Actually I think the white would be fabulous with a great quilting design on it.... The red is very pretty, but if you want the look to be a little less pronounced, go with the white...

New Quilter 07-14-2011 10:33 AM

Red, then blue are my choices...   Naomi

sandyo 07-14-2011 10:33 AM

red or white

Kehoeta 07-14-2011 10:34 AM

Red

QUILTNMO 07-14-2011 10:36 AM

i like the red makes it pop

julia58 07-14-2011 10:40 AM

Love the block. And I think the red or white would look stunning. You did a excellent job on those blocks. Very nice.

EasyPeezy 07-14-2011 10:42 AM

I'm in the minority here but I like the blue best. The white dulls it and the
black and red distract too much from the beautiful blocks. JMHO. :-D
It all depends on what look you're after.

nativetexan 07-14-2011 10:43 AM

I too like the red best. beautiful blks.

liwilliams 07-14-2011 10:45 AM

Those are really pretty blocks. Have you decided yet? I can't wait to see the results.

xsquilter 07-14-2011 10:47 AM

I really like the red, & white comes in second! Beautiful block.

Motorcyclemad 07-14-2011 10:59 AM

I would have to say red (but that is one of my favorite colors)! You may want to go a little thinner than what is pictured.
Awesome block too!

I agree, go with red.

cjomomma 07-14-2011 11:01 AM

I like the red or white.

MTS 07-14-2011 11:03 AM

I remember these! The blocks look fabulous.

I'd probably go for the red - but much narrower. And the idea upthread of combining 4 without sashing is interesting.

Or what to do they look like with a thinner sashing but dropped a half-block? Or on point?

I'm for anything that avoids the ubiquitous squares in a grid layout. ;-)

I agree I like the red but I think it should be thinner then what has been shown.

katier825 07-14-2011 11:11 AM

Red. White would be 2nd choice.

Thanks everyone!! Each block is 104 pieces. I made 12 of them, for a grand total of 1,248 pieces. :)

Here are some with skinnier sashing and one without any sashing.

Rumbols 07-14-2011 11:14 AM

Either the red or white but red would be my choice.

sewwhat85 07-14-2011 11:15 AM

white blue then red

This is Carol Doak's Alaska block, from her 50 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars book.

Justquilting 07-14-2011 11:17 AM

Red makes the quilt pop. Black & blue really does nothing for it.
White would be my second choice.

DogHouseMom 07-14-2011 11:20 AM

I read all the threads and agreed about red, and thinner sashing but now that I see it without sashing ... I like the secondary pattern of no sashing.

Very nice block! I have one of Carol's books - gonna have to see if this block is in it. Love the block!
