I feel good.. sort of.. My scrap bin of odds and ends is almost empty, thanks to this small section of this Fun with Bricks quilt pattern I am starting.. so many scraps to cut, and sew .. but its worth knowing I will be able to empty out my bin by tomorrow.. I am making this into a queen sized quilt I think ( maybe just a full if I get tired of cutting  ).. what do you guys think for a border for someone whose not all that great at that part of quilting yet? any colors pop out at you?

Lady Shivesa 07-23-2010 07:37 PM

Ooooh, it's soo pretty! :) I don't have any suggestions for border as I'm new to this whole thing - just wanted to drop in and say it looks lovely! :)

sueisallaboutquilts 07-23-2010 07:38 PM

I love your scrappy!!! So pretty! I think a dark blue or black border would look awesome!!

cjomomma 07-23-2010 07:38 PM

This is nice. Maybe a red border. There sre so many wonderful colors to choose from. maybe try different colors and see which one you like the best.

Candace 07-23-2010 07:39 PM

I might go with a white border!

colleen53 07-23-2010 07:40 PM

i am cutting scraps now.. getting that scrapp drawer emptied and refilled with fabric of a bigger size...lol
this one is beautiful... i think what i like about it is the white.. breaks up the color sq.

charismah 07-23-2010 07:41 PM

It is great..I love the feeling of using scraps and emptying my bin...but it never happens..I create more than I use. As far as a border it is going to depend on if you are a warm or cool color person as far as what you will like..I am a warm color person..so I say go RED! BUt cool color person is going to prefer nice...soothing blue...

aneternalpoet 07-23-2010 07:42 PM

thanks.. I am already tired of cuttin strips , haha, but its fun to see the randomness of the colors, and such.. I just need to find more scraps if there are any hidden in my other bins, as I dont want to cut into yardage that I am short on.. Thanks for the encouragement!

aneternalpoet 07-23-2010 07:44 PM

i am probably more like you, but I love the color purple, but not sure that would fit this quilt project.. who knows, I might be able to find more scraps I have hidden somewhere, and put more into it.. thanks for the encouraging comment.. ( and your name is so unique. Love the sound of charismah..( probably missspelled it since its not in front of me now , sorry ).

littlehud 07-23-2010 08:05 PM

The red is just calling to me. I would go with red.

Sadiemae 07-23-2010 08:05 PM

I would go with a small white border then I would find a print that had many colors in it. Just my opinion.

GrammaNan 07-23-2010 08:11 PM

I think a dark blue with some purple in it would be nice.

Wine Woman 07-23-2010 08:19 PM

Cute quilt, I would go with a three different pieces from thin to thicker. Red, white and black. May not be in that order but make the border closest to the quilt thinner than the other two. do a gratuated witdth of strips. Can't wait to see the finished quilt!

PennyLynn 07-23-2010 08:21 PM

I would go with red are dark blue, It looks good. Please post when done.

Honchey 07-23-2010 08:31 PM

I love the quilt! It really looks great, nice and scrappy! If this were mine I would put a 1 inch dark blue border to frame it then a nice 3 inch dark red/burgandy or green outer border.

Judy_M 07-23-2010 08:38 PM

Love your scrappy quilt. Where did you purchase Fun with Bricks pattern?

aneternalpoet 07-23-2010 08:40 PM

it is free on www.quiltville.com.. a great scrappy quilting site!

Bluelady 07-23-2010 08:46 PM

How about a small red inner border and a piano key outer border, using up more of your scraps.

Gal 07-23-2010 11:44 PM

Lovely quilt top, I always think blues are restful if it is for a bed.

It is wonderful. I like the white to break it up too. Good luck with seing the bottom of your scrap draw.

rootyr 07-24-2010 02:05 AM

I think red or blue also!!

daniellern76 07-24-2010 02:05 AM

I would do a thinner white border followed by a blue. It's very nice! Great job!

1quilt_gma 07-24-2010 02:09 AM

An empty scrap bin.....NO WAY! (It won't last long, believe me).

Don't know about the border, so many colors stand out.

rismstress 07-24-2010 03:12 AM

I think any border in red or black would be great. Love your quilt.

sewnmom 07-24-2010 03:27 AM

poet, your scrappy quilt is indeed lovely.. on your border, instantly i see red-torquise and white, either of these color would or use both.. or a white border w/ a vine and purple flowers, huh???? i just might have to try one of these as a "end & begining quilt.. molly

mawmawbeve_60 07-24-2010 03:58 AM

red.and its going to be nice....

dawson.tracy35 07-24-2010 04:02 AM

I vote for red! That was the first thing that caught my eye when I saw it. I think it would really make it pop with that red border. Whatever you choose it will be just as beautiful as it is now though!

MamaBear61 07-24-2010 04:21 AM

Your quilt is wonderful. I like the idea of using two borders maybe 2" white and then 5" dark (black, blue, purple)

Ps 150 07-24-2010 04:23 AM

There are so many beautiful colors in the quilt! How about doing a simple, thin white border and then a piano keys border on the outside, using up the same scraps in the quilt?

Barbm 07-24-2010 04:29 AM

I agree, a thin white border to frame it and then a wider border of whatever color calls to you. I even like the idea of the piano key border in all the scraps (if you have any left).

Rebecca VLQ 07-24-2010 04:32 AM

I think I'd do a pinstripe green around, then maybe a 2-3" of something else. Loving how that's turning out!

katier825 07-24-2010 04:36 AM

That's really cute! It must feel good to use up most of your scraps too. I'm a double border type of person. I like a narrow inner border, then a wider border. Kind of like a double matted picture. You might want to lay a few colors out and see what looks good to you and if you go with the 2, what looks good together.

Beachbound 07-24-2010 04:37 AM

Nice quilt!! You did an awesome job of using scraps. If this was my quilt I would put 2 borders on. First one the size of the small strips, maybe in a light blue. The second border would be the width of the blocks in a darker blue. Thos blues just speak to me personaly & I find them calming and lovely. I rarely use white for borders unless it is the main color but if white speaks to you it would look great as well.

I was a hopeless case for borders until I read this post and studied 'all' of the videos. Now binding is a walk in the park for me. I promote this post every chance I get because it was so valuable to me and I know it must have been to many others. I hope it will add value for you as well and make binding a pleasure instead of a monster hiding in the closet.

Love the scrappy look Nice!!!!

quiltinghere 07-24-2010 04:50 AM

My guess would be a thin white border to 'matte' the quilt, then a black/dark, then a wider red.

Audition it (just lay it on fabric) and see how it looks...take pictures.

Rosyhf 07-24-2010 04:56 AM

I would do a 1 1/2 inch Red border and then a 2 1/2 inch Teal border and bind in Red

rubinsml 07-24-2010 05:07 AM

Is there aspecial place for this quilt? If there is , I would use a dominate color from that place and use that to bind or border it.

quilter68 07-24-2010 05:56 AM

red, white and blue pop out at me. I like this quilt.

Just read pg.2 and saw SEWNMOM's idea of the white border and flowers with vines - Love that idea!

GrannyW5 07-24-2010 05:59 AM
