Scrap jar block.

I am new to quilting and the few things that I have made have been pretty simple. But I love looking at the various blocks that people make and I had a look round the internet to find something that I like the look of. I found a scrap jar tutorial and thought "how hard can it be?". Well yeah, I found out how hard it can be :p My cutting for some reason is totally off which lead to some HSTs being completely wonky and some of the smaller squares being slightly more rectangular than square. But overall i'm happy with what I managed to make. And we all know that practice makes perfect :D

Edit: I've just noticed that the piecing on the outer corners is wrong too. Oh well, just as well its not going into a quilt!

Not so bad for a newbie. Just keep practicing & soon you will be doing it perfect! I really like the colors & fabrics in your block & you are being kinda hard on yourself because it doesn't look all that wonky to me!

I don't see much wonky and maybe with a little starch and pressing you can get it under control. A suggestion is to make flying geese units for the star points on all four sides. That would eliminate the four center seams. Any seam that is purged from a quilt is that much less bulk. I think you did a great job. I don't know the size of the block but you could make a placemat or something else from this block. We have ALL learn from our mistakes.

This is a very pretty block. Keep up the enthusiasm! Imagine a whole quilt made of these blocks.

I love anything scrappy and your block looks like it will be a great quilt!

it looks great to me. and, yes, practice is a good thing

I think it looks great - especially for a newbie! There were a lot of seams to match up in this block and they all match well as do the points! I would certainly use it in something - a table topper or something like that!

Very nice! Just look at it as a practice block. I almost always toss the first one. But I really don't see any flaws in your block, a simple press and it will look great! It would be a beautiful quilt.

Very nice job indeed! The star points are all 1/4 inch in from the edge so they won't disappear when you sew the blocks together. Give yourself a pat on the back and use it in a table topper/runner or continue with more for a quilt.

I like it! Challenging start!
