Scrappy – FMQ – label on binding and learning all the way
6 Attachment(s)
This is my third quilt and I have never followed a pattern for a whole quilt. I always choose blocks that I liked and that I wanted to try and then fudged around it to make a quilt. This caused me lots of headaches but it was a wonderful learning experiences. I don’t have much of a stash as at the beginning I bought ¼ yards of fabrics that I thought I needed... (I learned better later... and don’t do that anymore). Thus my goal was to learn new techniques and to use what I had.
I decided to try to follow directions of a pattern from a book and I chose Modified flying geese incorporated by Gayle Bong. The problem was that the direction are for a 43 ¼ by 43 ¼ quilt and I wanted a bed size quilt and rectangular... oopsssss The technique is called “twin peaks” and uses scraps, which was my very first goal. The book is called ”Twin Peaks, quilts from easy Strip-Pieced triangles” from Gayle Bong. http://www.gaylebong.com/announcements/2008.html As I liked to hand quilt and I always make them sort of reversible, I chose to modify this labyrinth pattern form Debbie Maddy to make it a huge block so I would not have to deal with too many layers of seams to hand quilt. http://webstore.quiltropolis.net/sto...1209&Photo=One As I progressed with this quilt I was handquilting my second quilt and I developed pain in my right thumb. I just could not hand quilt anymore so I thought I would give FMQ a try and as everyone says Practice, practice, practice...!!! FMQuilting a big quilt on my small sewing machine would give me just that: a lot of practice. As this was not enough, I decided to learn how to label my quilt on the binding after i read this thread “printing on a binding” http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...g-t220751.html I accepted the fact that it would not be perfect but at least I would learn all the way and the layers would hold together and I do not intend this quilt to be inspected that closely ever, by anyone... except you all ... loll reverse side my quilting got better after a while labelling on the binding all around the quilt with my name, place and date, and inspired from (and the name of the pattern and authors) and |
Delightful quilts.

I think you did an excellant job! I would be thrilled if I had done that. I'm on about my 20th and I'm still doing throw size in meander FMQ. I also love the binding label idea. Thanks for the info.
Fantastic job! You do nice work.
beautiful. love the scrappy look of it.
all aspects are wonderful... nicely done
Great reversible quilt! I love the label on the binding too!
You did a lovely job and I love the way you adapted the flying geese pattern. I am also going to try the machine printing on the binding for my current quilt. Such a unique idea.
Your quilt is great. Reversible too!
kudos to you...nice job

Really like this one a lot, especially the triangles in the borders.

Thank you very much for your nice comments! I am really satisfied with it.
What GR8 job and so lovely as a reversible.
Awesome job!
Very pretty, I think you are well on the way. Just keep making quilts.
Wow! That is a lot of work to make it reversible. Both sides look wonderful - I especially like the yellow you put with the scrappy.
Beautiful quilt!!!
Great quilt.
You did great.
Great job on your quilt. Took a lot of patience to do that and you have a nice quilt for yourself and there are no quilt police here.

As you can see, yes it took me awhile and I am far from being in a "production" mode. One at a time (or two...) |
it's a stunning quilt, you did a beautiful job
Very nice....
OMgosh your quilt is beautiful on both sides. You did a wonderful job on the quilting, it's hard to believe this was your first time on FMQ. I too especially love the triangles in the outside border. The labyrinth is one of my favorite patterns and yours turned out so nice. Thanks for sharing.
This is a great quilt, front and back. I'd say for a beginner that you are doing a great job.
I love your scrap pattern; it looks especially nice with the latticed headboard.
What a nice quilt. Love the triangle border detail and to top it off you did the label on the binding.:D I just love the whole thing!
peace |
Very, very pretty!
Such beautiful quilts....from a "Lover of Scrappys"
very nicely done love the first one great scrappy!!!
Great quilt. Love how the dark stripe accentuates the softer colors.
Labeling on the binding! Fantastic idea! I plan to practice it and use it on my next quilt. And BTW, your quilt is beautiful. Your FMQ is very good. I have the hang of doing meandering but when I attempt to get more creative, not always so neat. Practice, practice, practice!
Wonderful quilt. Both sides are great but I especially like the first one. Very clever labeling and you do nice quilting.
I don't think my third quilt looked that good. Nice job.
