Scrappy Asian LC clam shell

2 Attachment(s)
I usually like to wait until I am done quilting before posting but wanted to share this WIP. I still have to add the border which is the blue you can see peeking out in the 2nd picture.

I have a lot of Asian scraps and wanted to try and make a dent in them. I separated them into darks and lights only and didn't use any mediums. Well a few mediums snuck into this one but I quickly realized the contrast wasn't strong enough so quit using them. Some of my lights weren't quite as light as I wanted so I used them wrong side up and then they were perfect. I precut into 1 1/2" and 1" logs for an offset LC and arranged them in a clam shell setting. I have awesome plans for quilting this but it will be a while before I can get to it. Here is my Scrappy Asian LC clam shell quilt. Oh and it didn't seem like a made a dent in my scraps! I do have to agree with many of the ladies here who say the LC is the best way to use a lot of different scraps. I am really pleased with how this turned out.

ube, no pattern. I just did a quick draft on graph paper. It was really easy and construction was like any other LC

Patience grasshopper. I can't reveal all my secrets before the big reveal. Besides, what I think is an awesome plan now, may get changed and redrafted several times.... or not. :D

barnbum 06-01-2015 12:53 PM

How pretty! I have made many LC in my day (as you know), but I've never seen that pattern. Perfect choice for your fabrics.

Ada Shiela 06-01-2015 02:20 PM

A beautiful quilt; love the clamshell shape of the log cabin, that must have taken some time to figure out final placement?

ube quilting 06-01-2015 03:33 PM

If you are willing to give more information on this block, my simple brain needs more to work with.

How big is your LC block before finishing?
How many strips of both sizes are in the block.
How big is the starting center square?

this is such a cool pattern and I really want to try it.

Thanks so much for any info you could share.
peace

For scrappy, this is one beautifully coordinated quilt and it looks to be heirloom bound to me.
