My first quilt, king size Cathedral Windows. Made entirely with excess stash from a friend - a real boon to be able to learn on free fabrics. Only one block has a twin; all others are unique from an unbelievable variety of fabrics.

I have never seen a cathedral windows done this way. I really like it!

A second thought is that this would be a great carry along project.

Gorgeous~

Is this done by hand or machine? It sure is pretty. How big is each block? I just learned how to do the cathedral window by hand. I finished my first section. Maybe I will take a picture and post it. You did a beautiful job! Sherry 8-)

That's fantastic. It's one I've always wanted to do but I just can't wrap my head around the first folding part. (I can't get the hang of origami either)

|
Oh I really like this! You did a wonderful job! Was it hard?
|
Did I read it right - this was your first quilt??? Wow! Very impressive! It is beautiful!
|
The four squares that go into each block began as 8 1/4" squares; the four little 'windows' began as 2 1/2" each.
Finished block is 7 3/4". I was using handwritten notes that gave no dimensions so just guessed at a size. I now know (or think!) that 8 1/2" initial squares would've resulted in 8" block.... Machine pieced & quilted each block before assembling into rows & then sewing all together. Some experienced quilters told me I didn't need to add batting & backing since each block is four layers of fabric thick, plus the little windows. That was a relief! I'd never tried any kind of quiltmaking and had no idea how much I had to learn! |
Thats an awesome CW!
|
Wow, I like how they look like seperate blocks. Great design.
