Scrappy Colorwash Crumb Quilt

3 Attachment(s)
My bags of crumbs were overflowing so I figured it was time to do something with them besides a Wallhanging or pillow etc…so, I just started making crumb fabrics using each bag of color….When I though I had enough, I cut blocks from those and did a Colorwash layout. With the scraps of crumb fabrics, I cut 2” sashing and creating transitioning strips. I must have auditioned every color for a solid border and none looked right…decided to continue and extend the colors to the border. Kind of a neat effect, I think. Anywhooo…my husband thought this turned out cool saying, “I really like that” so I made a drawstring bag for the quilt and put it in his truck for emergency blanket. lol.. I was going to donate it but when Hubbie really likes a quilt, I keep it…. Picture of the fabrics created are included if you were curious…

Scrappy isn't usually for me, but this one is fantastic. What a great use of all the colors.

Quiltwoman44 12-02-2023 07:07 PM

That is one Fab quilt! Love the border you did too!!!

What a great way to use your scraps!

EmiliasNana 12-03-2023 05:13 AM

You are a better person than I. I can't save all those little pieces, because unlike you I would never use them. Kudos to you for turning them into a fabulous and colorful quilt! It makes me wish I was as industrious as you.

lindaschipper 12-03-2023 05:28 AM

I like the way you did yours....thinking I should try something like that too. I made "My Monster Quilt" using scraps, but never touched my scrap string skinny pieces and used them the way you have. Oh, you've given me a winter incentive!!

well done! really lovely. a vehicle quilt for emergencies was part of the recent Conquer Your Scraps summit, if you are part of that group you should share this project!

GingerK 12-03-2023 05:58 AM

That is absolutely beautiful!! Wish my scraps were as organized as yours!

Karamarie 12-03-2023 06:46 AM

Love it. It's always in my mind to dig into the scraps I have but I never do.

So bright and cheerful, wonderful scrappy quilt

Gay 12-03-2023 03:50 PM

I so love this quilt, and may just try this method to rid myself of all my left-overs. The method I was using just takes so long to make one block.

petthefabric 12-03-2023 04:11 PM

Inspired. Hmmmmm.

sewbizgirl 12-03-2023 04:37 PM

That is a really cool quilt! Glad it's not leaving the family!

I like crumb quilts and your scraps are so so pretty to make one. My scraps consist mostly of QOV fabrics.

Rose S. 12-08-2023 01:57 PM

Oh, I so love this...I had not thought of doing this with crumbs...and I fool with crumbs all the time. This is wonderful.

moonwolf47 12-10-2023 12:34 PM

Love your crumb quilt and the border! I just love scrappy. And you did great in color blocks.

greaterexp 12-18-2023 06:03 AM

What a terrific use of scraps! When I think of how many potential quilts I threw away before I started saving scraps, it make me sick. Yours is a great creation!

rryder 12-18-2023 07:40 AM

Great use of crumbs, Teen! I love the color wash effect.

cashs_mom 12-24-2023 08:05 AM

I'm glad this thread got bumped up. I've decided I like this quilt so much, I'm going to put it on the inspiration wall. I'd love to do this a use up more of my scraps!

Watson 12-24-2023 09:57 AM

Hey, Teen...love it.
When I look at the pics, the first one of the blocks had me saying...OK..nice...
But, put them together and WOW!
May just have to give this a try one of these days.

This is fantastic, Teen! I have never done something like this, but I may have to attempt it some day. Isn't it nice when one of our loved ones really appreciates something we do? It's beautiful.

I can't even figure out how you did this but it came out amazing! I love the color segregation and extending it to the border. Great work!

moonwolf47 12-31-2023 07:18 AM

Love scrappy and your quilt is fantastic! The border really sets it off I think. Great job.

CarolinePaj 12-31-2023 07:50 AM

I have never made a scrappy quilt as I have never really been into scrappy... but this one is amazing and gorgeous and it inspires me!

Love your quilt! Isn't playing with crumbs fun and frugal at the same time? I hadn't thought of this layout but it's a definite keeper.

Beautiful! I love scraps, and I'm one who saves everything that's big enough for another seam.
