Scrappy Granny Square finished
3 Attachment(s)
Hi all,
I wanted to post a few pics of the Granny Square quilt I just finished. Some of you may recognize it as I used pictures of this quilt in progress when writing this tutorial: https://www.quiltingboard.com/tutori...l-t288482.html This quilt came about after cutting my box of scraps into usable sizes. I had a large stack of 2" squares and the brights just seemed like they'd fit with this pattern. Of course, there were only a few brights, so I had to add to them from my FQ's and vintage fabric squares that I had picked up at the thrift store. Some of these fabrics I thought I'd never be able to use, but they were perfect in this quilt. The finished size is 43" x 55". It is big stitch hand quilted with grey perle cotton (size 12), and the back is a vintage sheet. Binding is scraps from the quilt top. You did a beautiful job!!
I really like that!!
Great quilt. Love the colors.
love, love your quilt and quilting!!!!!
It turned out so pretty. Amazing what can be done with those tiny pieces you had. I like the way you did the binding too. The back is lovely.
Very cute quilt. Love the backing.
beautiful work love all the different fabrics
Great job! Its on my bucket list.
that is gorgeous!! i thought of how to do easier. thought you did on point, row by row sewing together. looked at your tute and saw how you made it easy. but with my brain, i'd mess that up big time. the last on point was almost a disaster. so, may not do this one but just admire your quilt from afar.
I love it. Thanks for the tut. I have saved it. BrendaK
This was my first on point ever and it wasn't that hard.
you did a great job!!!!
Lover it!!!!
That is LOVELY! Love the colors and hand stitching .
Beautiful scrappy. I see so many scrappy quilts. When it comes time to work with scraps. I draw a blank.
Gorgeous! I've cut my scraps into usable sizes to...it does wonders for sparking ideas. I love yours, what a perfect way to incorporate a lot of squares!
I've looked at this block, but fretted about the side triangles because everything is on the diagonal! |
I absolutely love your quilt, beautiful work!
Amazing job...and you were able to use the fabrics you thought would never be used. You are Abundantly Artistic.:)
Absolutely love your quilt and appreciated your tutorial. I hope to do one.
This turned out great and I predict this will be the most sought after quilt for cuddling under on the sofa. The big stitch quilting is perfect for such a timeless old timey pattern as the granny square. But you moderned it up with your great fabric choices. The hand quilting is the icing on the cake and will make for a very cuddly quilt. Love the scrappy binding too.
Wow, that is perfect in every way!
Wow, I am always impresses and yes, surprised when we reach into the scrap bag and plunge in to use up those odds and ends. Your granny square is lovely. My eyes are not drawn to any one square or overwhelmed by any particular color. Good balance in your layout. Now, I will need to check out your tutorial so I can see how you accomplished this granny square quilt. I have plenty of scrapes to use also!
Perfect in every way. Thanks for the tute too. Love it.
Love your tutorial. I was confused at first but now I think I could do it. Just have to remember a few things. Make nine patches and save four patches of the corner fabrics for connecting four secondary nine patches. The secondary block is made of background fabric alternated with four different fabrics from the Primary Nine patches. I think once I got that done the rest would be instinctive.
Your quilt is just beautiful. Love your hand quilting!
It IS instinctive once you lay it out. Just keep your design wall handy and take it one block at a time. Like I said before, this was new to me in many ways (first on point, first tutorial, and first truly scrappy), but very do-able once I got the rhythm. It was also very quick, even with the hand quilting. I'm learning not to be intimidated by new things, just break them down into logical steps and take my time. I, too, have struggled with true scrappy, but this was a fun learning experience. The fabrics that seemed hard to use became part of my favorite blocks.
I love your quilt so much that you have given me hope for all my scrap pieces. Finally something I want to use them for! Yippee!!
This is fabulous
Oh I just LOVE it! It's a blast from the past. Your hand quilting is gorgeous too, and if you tell me that's a vintage sheet on the back I'll just die!
Gorgeous and wonderful.... |
Yep, vintage sheet on the back. Hope I'm not responsible for your death:p

When someone says "quilt" - this is the first type of quilt I think of. It is beautiful enough to be for company only - but looks inviting enough to leave on the couch for naptimes. |
I love your quilt and especially love the pattern too. Love the way you quilted it also. Great work.
Nice job and the backing (sheet) is perfect. I also use good used sheets for backing - they are so soft.
Another gorgeous scrappy creation. Well done.
And hand quilted, too. Lovely, delightful. Thanks for sharing your method, too.
Nice quilt.
Your quilt is awesome. Beautiful fabrics and workmanship. Love it.
Beautiful!! I love all the colors!
