So I have been hiding in my sewing room to get back in the groove.
I found this heart block on Quilters Cache site and just had to try it. Now to decide how to quilt it. I think I want to stitch in the ditch to make the hearts puffier. Any suggestions?i

Chele 05-04-2009 04:26 PM

That's a happy quilt! I have no quilting suggestions. Still have to learn quilting. I'm sure whatever you decide will only enhance your beautiful top.

tlrnhi 05-04-2009 04:26 PM

I have a GREAT suggestion!!!
Once it's done....send it to me!! :) :)

It's beautiful! You did a great job!

quiltnut4ever 05-04-2009 04:27 PM

Its gorgeous! I'm no expert on the quilting but I did do an "echo" around the heart for emphasis.

SaraSewing 05-04-2009 04:51 PM

This is great! I'll need to find nice scraps to make one like this.

Shemjo 05-04-2009 04:55 PM

A Happy in Love Quilt! Sew sweet! I would outline the hearts. I like the idea of echo quilting the hearts!

Evelynquilts 05-04-2009 05:36 PM

Very pretty!!! Don't have any suggestions for quilting though.

kimmers 05-04-2009 05:50 PM

Thank you all so much :) You guys definitely make me smile and I am so grateful for all the kind words!

tlrnhi - you will have to fight my daughter for this one. We have already decided that we are going to have to repaint her room to match one of the colors. She fell in love with it :)

Evelynquilts - the name on quilters cache is Patchy Heart. Couldn't find it when I posted this so just named it scrappy.

Kimmers:
Lovely quilt and a great scrappy quilt. I like yours better then the ones she show on Quilter's Cache.

pennyswings 05-04-2009 06:09 PM

Kimmers:
I like in the ditch, maybe one echo around each heart, I think the square is big enough.

pittsburgpam 05-04-2009 06:30 PM

Dittoes! I like the idea of echoing the heart as a quilt pattern.
And thank you for the picture of your quilt and the source of your inspiration. Seeing your quilt motivated me to print out the pattern. Your use of color is a real motivator <g>.

That's beautiful, kimmers! I've done one of these blocks which is on a little sampler my DD has in her room, it looks great as a whole quilt! As for the quilting, if you really want to make the hearts puffy, I would outline quilt AND echo at 1/4". I'm currently quilting a bed quilt with appliquéd hearts like that and they really POP! I've got wool batting in as well which is really fluffy.

I think your heart quilt is so pretty, I love the colours too :D

If you really want the hearts to pop you could use trapunto method by adding an extra layer of batting just to the hearts before layering up the quilt as normal :D

Barb M 05-05-2009 12:57 AM

Wow, it's so bright and cheery :)

quiltswithdogs 05-05-2009 01:33 AM

I love this! Since I can't hand applique nowadays, I thought I had to give up my heart blocks idea. Now I can do it... thanks!

I found the Patchy Heart 10" block pattern --- on Quilter's Cache... #47 in her 2005 collection.

Quilt4u 05-05-2009 01:35 AM

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

I really like the idea of putting some extra batting under the hearts for a little more puff!

I am heading to Florida to see my mom for Mothers day so when I get home I will have to get started on it cause I am really excited to see it totally done!

Harmony 05-05-2009 05:17 PM
