Scrappy Log Cabin set on point

5 Attachment(s)
Just finished this one last night. I've made several scrappy log cabins and I always try to vary the layout. This time I set the blocks on point. Logs are 1" finished, quilt measures about 106" square. The back is pieced only because I was just a little short of the gold fabric. Quilted on my Innova longarm.

I started cutting strips from my scraps around the middle of November. Some of my scraps had already been cut into 1.5" strips. Chain piecing the blocks went very quickly, but then deciding on a setting took some time. (I used EQ7 to experiment with the setting.) Then making the back always takes longer than it should - first finding a fabric (I wanted to use from my stash without too much piecing) and then putting it together. Then after I loaded the quilt on the frame it took me several days to decide how to quilt it. Still, I guess it was only about 6 weeks start to finish.

This is one glorious quilt. Love the way you set the blocks on point. Colors are gorgeous as is the quilting. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a 12.

You did your scraps proud!! Its a spectacular scrappy! There is a reason log cabins are my favorite pattern for scrappies ... and yours is the best demonstration of why!

Quilter 65 12-23-2013 03:21 PM

I really like blocks set on point. Thinks it adds so much interesting and yours is beautiful. The quilting in the lighter color is mmmmmmmmmmmmmm great. Wonderful quilt.

feline fanatic 12-23-2013 03:27 PM

Striking! And I love your innovative quilting approach mixing the motifs some places quilting with the piecing and other places ignoring the piecing and putting a medallion ghost star in the center. A beauty for sure.
