Scrappy log cabin variation
1 Attachment(s)
I love making scrappy log cabin blocks with 1 1/2” strips. I’m sure I saw this pattern on the Quilting Board several months ago.
It’s beautiful!
If someone could direct me to the pattern, I would love to have it. I suppose I could figure it out, but I’m kind of a pattern-lover! |
That is the nicest log cabin quilt I've seen in a long time. Best part for me is I just found a container of strip that are NOT 2.5...and away I go!!! lol
It is amazing how a log cabin pattern can look so different just by being arranged in a different way.
Very nice, love scrappie!
Wow! That's a fun one!
ah the half log cabin pattern, nice lay out!
I love this variation of Log Cabin. It is so unique. So many quilters have wonderful design skills. Your scrappy version is so appealing to me. Okay....now I see the need to start cutting 1 1/2" strips to get ready for a new project.

Not too many quilts make me go, "Wow! That's cool!" when I first open the page, but this one did. Really original and great use of colour.

Lovely quilt and so cheerful!
Cool layout! Great scrap buster :-)
what a beautiful quilt!!! I don't think of it as scrappy -- I love all the bright colors and to arrange it so differently. Wonderful !!
That is a great variation, I like the large centers with the skinny logs!

If someone could direct me to the pattern, I would love to have it. I suppose I could figure it out, but I’m kind of a pattern-lover! Start with the square. Add a 2 1/2" dark strip to the "top" of the square. Then a 3 1/2" light on the "right" of the square. Then a 3 1/2" dark to the top. A 4 1/2" light on the right. A 4 1/2" dark on top. A 5 1/2" light on the right. A 5 1/2" dark on top. A 6 1/2" light on the right. A 6 1/2" dark on top. A 7 1/2" light on the right. A 7 1/2" dark on top. And finally, 1 8 1/2" light on the right. That's it. I hope this helps. |
I love this variation too! Great quilting.
That is awesome! Kudos to you for being able to do that and keep everything straight I am not a scrappy quilter at all, and always marvel at those that are.

Yessss... I'm just beginning to sort scraps for 'something'... this is a very nice thing! I'm finishing a quilt with the center made of traditional log cabin blocks...this is just different enough to make me want to try it! Awesome design and finish!
Sweet quilt! I like that variation. 👍
Very nice, I knew there was a reason I bough The Studio cutting machine
That is a great log cabin, you made it look modern. I love scrappy and have been making quilts with various ways using string blocks. But I need to give this one a try with the 1 1/2 strips. Thank you for sharing yours

Very pretty and crisp lookimg.

I've never seen a log cabin like this one. I really like it.

I didn't have a pattern, but here's some help. The beginning of the block is a 2 1/2" dark square. All the strips are cut at 1 1/2" in width. The blocks are 8 1/2" square before you sew them together. You assemble each block as follows:
Start with the square. Add a 2 1/2" dark strip to the "top" of the square. Then a 3 1/2" light on the "right" of the square. Then a 3 1/2" dark to the top. A 4 1/2" light on the right. A 4 1/2" dark on top. A 5 1/2" light on the right. A 5 1/2" dark on top. A 6 1/2" light on the right. A 6 1/2" dark on top. A 7 1/2" light on the right. A 7 1/2" dark on top. And finally, 1 8 1/2" light on the right. That's it. I hope this helps. Perfect! Thank you. |
Sweet scrappy log cabin.

I am always excited, thrilled and amazed when I see a traditional pattern repurposed and used to create a really modern looking quilt. You did it! The best of both worlds. Stand up and take a bow. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png

Oh how pretty! Log Cabin is one if my favorite blocks and yours is outstanding, well done!
Great use of scraps and lovely overall design.
Oh, wow, spectacular!!!
Great scrappy log cabin...I agree with Watson, great selection of colors. I hope you were able to put a dent in your stash.
There is no such thing as a dent in the scrap stash. I firmly believe that scrap fairies bring us new scraps in the night.
Grand lay out for this Log Cabin!. I am getting ready to do a Log Cabin this year and this is a leading contender. Thanks for Sharing this wonderful idea. Great Job.
Awesome log cabin quilt. Love your layout design. So pretty
Really pretty and the block setting is unique.
Very cool, Loisf! I don't remember seeing this layout before. It's very striking.

Thank you so much for sharing not only the photo, but your instructions. I don't normally care for the randomness of scrappy as it usually looks too busy for me, but your color choices and placement give the piece a wonderful calming feel that draws you into the design. Great job!
Nice alternate to traditional
Very interesting variation.
