What a beautiful baby quilt-- destined to be well-loved.
I love scrappy quilts. My grandmother made one for me; a simple utility scrap quilt with pink sashing. I spent many "naptimes" studying the prints and colors. I'm sure my mom was delighted that it kept me entertained for a few extra minutes! It was hand quilted like yours. There's nothing like soft hand quilting to snuggle under. |
if you search for TECHNIQUE CALLED TURKEY TRACKS you will find a good drawing of the method of execution of this wonderful tacking device. sometimes i have seen it called crow foot tacking.
i use crotchet thread, the kind that comes in a big round ball. it is what grandma used to make doilies. i find that embroidery floss is too much hassle, although i have used it. also pearl cotton but it is more expensive and a little heavier than i prefer. but there are no quilt police. i would suggest experimentation to see what you like. have fun, it is very satisfying. |
Very nice quilt nanabirdmo! Great use of scraps! The colors are so soft too.
