Scrappy Trips in light colors
1 Attachment(s)
There was a thread on the board last year with a link to a picture of Bonnie Hunter's Scrappy Trips made up with light fabrics. I loved it and made one like it. It is a great way to use up some fabrics that have been in my stash awhile.

Nicely pieced and quilted.

Looks great, love to see what happens with scrap fabric. Its amazing what you can do.
looks great and the quilting is perfect for it
Great quilt. Love the color placement, the feather quilting, and the softness of it.
Love your quilting.

I like the placement of your color pattern in this quilt. It is an unusual twist on Trip Around the World. I also really like your feather quilting in the light areas. It is just perfect for your piecing design. Great job.

Ohhhhhh, I love that. It's beautiful! Thanks for sharing as I think I want to make one.

What a comfy quilt. Love the softness.

Sew pretty! All the lighter colors are great, and the feathers quilting is a fab finish!
Oh that is fabulous. I wish I could organize my scraps and quit being afraid of them.
What a nice scrap quilt. Minibarn, just dig in and play with your scraps. Bonnie Hunter's website has great tips for organizing them. Sometimes the funnest days in my sewing room is digging into my scraps. I will take them out, play for a while and if I get bored with them I put them away again to be pulled out a later date. Sometimes it is fun just to take them out and remember the quilts you made with them again.

I love it!!! This pattern would work for batiks too.

beautiful.....and I do have too many light scraps.....
Beautifully pieced and beautifully quilted.

For all us Bonnie Hunter fans, check out her blog. The thingie on her forehead was not what she was hoping for.
Bonnie uses a lot of "neutral" scraps. That is hard for me to buy. I want bright vibrant colors, so I'm searching for some in my stash. |
Love your quilt...looks like a lot of squares. : )
You did a great job. |
Beautiful!

Well, I have to be the "naysayer" on this one. The beauty of the top is, IMHO, lost in the heavy quilting. I can hardly see the colors or pattern in the lovely top. I, personally, think that in this top, less is more. Sorry for the rather negative reply.
Really nicely done. Love the way your quilting stands out.
Wow! It is gorgeous! I haven't seen one in the lighter fabrics. The quilting is amazing also
Very nice!
I was struck by your awesome quilting.

I find your opinion interesting and I am not arguing or being sarcastic. On occasion I hear someone say heavy quilting takes over the quilt etc and I always assume they mean where all the background etc has micro style quilting and every inch is quilted. This quilt has big loose feathers that stand out because of the fluffier wool batting. The colors are very light (sometimes the reverse of the fabric was used) so that the darker diagonal shows. I don't think this is heavily quilted, except in the dark squares to push them down so the other is puffier. What would you have done? Stitch in the ditch? Quilting shows more on light fabrics so I think it is that and the wool batting that makes it pop. I had an idea to make it look like those log cabins where the light rows are feathered. It is a bed quilt for someone in Michigan and I wanted it light and warm. A close pic is posted below. Peggy |
