I learned a lot about mitering borders after doing four red 'picture frame' borders at each corner!
Quilted it with SID.

Such a beautiful quilt. You have done such a lovely job. Love the "scrappiness". It appears co-ordinated :)

tweetee 06-28-2010 01:21 AM

VERY nice, is it machine peiced or paper peiced? I have always want to make one of these.

Love your colours too

Stunning and the pussycat too!

You did a wonderful job on it. Tumbling Blocks is one of my many 'want-to-try' patterns. It looks great as a scrappy. Thanks for sharing.

I love it.

quiltinghere 06-28-2010 04:57 AM

Did you sew your inner border strips together (black/red/black/red/black) and sew them on like ONE mitered piece of fabric instead of 5 pieces of fabric?

humbird 06-28-2010 05:06 AM

Oh my, that is very pretty. What piecing method did you use? What ever it was, you did it perfectly!

Marlys 06-28-2010 06:51 AM

Beautiful! I am usually not a huge fan of scrappy quilts, although I have made a few. I love yours!

Ditto. Like the cat, too.

quilting.addict 06-28-2010 07:14 AM

I've seen a lot of quilts with pretty centers and then....somehow as if they got bored, the remainder of bed size quilts is plain, boring, or ugly. You went the whole nine yards!! This is one of my favorite patterns, but since I have never paper pieced, I hadn't considered trying it. You make me tempted!!

Thank you all for the encouraging words! Having made only two quilts since I got addicted to this art form a year ago, the attagirls are inspiring and appreciated.

This tumbling blocks is pieced in strips (Marci Baker's "Not Your Grandmother's Tumbling Blocks").
Also, here is a youtube video about it.

I added the red 'picture frames' and the single row of blocks around the overhang border cuz, being king size, it just seemed to need something to set off those top blocks and break up all that overhang length.
