IMHO it could use a tone on tone border. Perhaps a blue that goes with the sashing?

doglover 02-03-2011 08:35 AM

Thank you so very much.
I have just spent a week going through totes of scrapes and cutting them into 5" blocks and was wondering what to do with them. You came to my rescue with a wonderful pattern. Thanks, now I know what my next project will be.

It is made with four 5" squares; then you make 1' cuts left and right and top and bottom of center; rotate the larger pieces and resew; then square up your blocks. (Then it's called a D4P---a disappearing four patch) I just added the sashing pieces so I wouldn't have to worry about matching all those seams you get. Of course you could use larger squares. I was just trying to use of leftover material.

Ditter43 02-03-2011 08:45 AM

Maybe a black border? I love the quilt!! :D

IDquilter 02-03-2011 09:18 AM

I like those blocks, great job. I would finish with a solid border, that would really set it off.

sewnserge 02-03-2011 09:21 AM

a soft peachy pink border would be nice... I think. I'm a newbie, so take it with a "bag" of salt!!!

dhanke 02-03-2011 10:34 AM

Personally, I would love a solid pink border.

malega 02-03-2011 10:35 AM

a solid border will look so beautiful.

belmer 02-03-2011 11:19 AM

Great job.... I would use a solid border!

jme 02-03-2011 12:57 PM

OOH I love it! I think it can definately stand on its own. I love scrappy.

Tennessee Suzi 02-03-2011 01:21 PM

I like the idea of a border...beautiful quilt!

sewwhat85 02-03-2011 01:42 PM

i love it

fluffyme02 02-03-2011 02:50 PM

I vote for the plain border also, maybe in the kinda like cranberry color. It is pretty. I love it!!!!

NCquilter 02-03-2011 02:54 PM

I like it how it is, but I solid would frame it nicely.

nannya54 02-03-2011 03:00 PM

What a nice job! If you have enough of any of the fabrics you used, you could certainly add it but I don't think you have to. Looks great the way it is.

dunster 02-03-2011 03:01 PM

I'm not a big fan of solid borders, especially if the quilt center doesn't have much solid. I don't think the quilt "needs" a border, unless you want it to be bigger.

It is a beautiful quilt, and the sashing is a work of genius. It gives the quilt a unique look, in a very good way.

Ruby the Quilter 02-03-2011 03:38 PM

Do you usually do a inner and outer border on quilts. I have a quilt time that is ready for borders or not- just wondered what everyone else does

I think another border the same as the sashing, then a 1/2" binding int - if you have enough, the eggplant coloured square in the upper right and lower right corners - or if there's not enough left a plain solid or other print (maybe finer) same colours or as close as possible. Thanks for asking, it's fun to muse about other quilters work, somehow it's easier to have a fresh perspective on it

tatavw01 02-03-2011 04:05 PM

solid border on this one it won't take away from the block. The one you chose is nice but you don't see the blocks. How about black, white, red, blue hope this helps....

Whoa, genius, I am blushing. I wanted the sashing to be light and airy and to have flowers in it as do all the other materials in this quilt. Thanks. I have 'auditioned' every color from my stash for the border and have finally settled on a medium blue.
Will post new pic when I get it on. Thanks everyone.

I usually do 2 or more borders. On this one I consider the flowers the first border and am going to add a medium blue border.

barnbum 02-03-2011 04:45 PM

Wow!! I've never seen that pattern. It's lovely in scraps. I think it easily stands as is and would also look nice with a solid border. You can't make a wrong decision. It's beautiful.

meemersmom 02-03-2011 05:37 PM

Instead of a border, how about a dark solid binding? I think very dark forest green or black. Maybe make the border a bit wider than you normally would, and get two birds with one stone...I mean binding?

sewbizgirl 02-03-2011 05:58 PM

I think it's got enough going on that it stands on it's own without a border. Great quilt!

Quilts R Hugs 02-03-2011 06:13 PM

Looks nice just the way it is!!

Ditto. It's a beautiful quilt

Lucy90 02-03-2011 07:43 PM

I would add a solid border

lnikkers52 02-03-2011 07:43 PM

OH beautiful. I love it. Nice Job.

annette1952 02-03-2011 08:13 PM

I really like it the way it is but a border would be nice too. Guess you would have to audition some fabrics & see what you think.

cheryl rearick 02-03-2011 09:12 PM

I think a solid boarder would be nice. I am so glad to see this pattern. CJsmoma did a tutorial on this (arrowhead) I really liked it. she cut hers down in center. I'm doing as you are in making a baby quilt in pink and white. Going shopping Sat. for a third color. At least I have a idea of what the quilt will look like (nice) Thank you for sharing.

IBQUILTIN 02-03-2011 09:28 PM

I definitely agree, a solid will balance all that color really well

Anne P 02-03-2011 09:35 PM

I agree with others who have said a solid border would be a good finish. You might pick that pink that looks solid in the picutre, but sometimes it's hard to tell in a picture on the computer. It looks like a medium pink in your quilt, especially considering that there is another, deeper pink.
Very well done.

Nolee 02-04-2011 08:01 AM

Solid, dark border would be my choice, OR even better, solid dark binding. It would frame it beautifully.

Fayelh 02-04-2011 12:50 PM

I am in two minds. I like it the way it is, but a border would look good as well.

Grandma58 02-04-2011 01:00 PM

I think your fine either way, but a border would make it bed size and you might be happier with it in the long run.

kwiltkrazy 02-04-2011 06:25 PM

I just love scrappy. You did a wonderful job.I like it just the way it is.

carolaug 02-04-2011 06:28 PM

Wow...love it!

Homespun 02-04-2011 08:12 PM

I am putting up a new posting. It is finished.

Did you just randomly chose a square? It is really pretty. Love the shashing.
