Do you think this will need another border? Something solid? Or can it stand on its own? It measures 60 x 68.

needles3thread 02-02-2011 11:19 AM

I would like to see a solid border on this one.

Granna of 5 02-02-2011 11:22 AM

I think a boarder in a solid would give the eye a rest. Really pretty.

Grama Lehr 02-02-2011 11:22 AM

Sweet quilt!! I think a solid frame would set it off nicely!!

KathyAire 02-02-2011 11:23 AM

It might need a border, but I love it like it is.
The sashing is different than anything I use and it looks really nice. I just never thought about a floral sashing, I will next time, though. Great looking quilt.

Great job, I love it!
I like the way it looks with no border.

feffertim 02-02-2011 11:40 AM

I think a border is the finishing touch on every quilt. I say go for it

Jim's Gem 02-02-2011 11:51 AM

Looks great. A Solid-looking border would look great
(I never use tru solids)

luvTooQuilt 02-02-2011 11:53 AM

I LOVE this quilt!!!! Wow.. I can give it a wonderful home.. ;) !!

BizzieLizzie 02-02-2011 01:23 PM

Gorgeous! Love it as it is though another border would be nice too!

Mariposa 02-02-2011 01:26 PM

A plain-ish border would finish it up nicely! imho

luckylindy333 02-02-2011 01:27 PM

I like it the way it is.

Becky13 02-02-2011 01:34 PM

It's just got that old timey scrappy look so I would not add a border. I love it!

Lindsey 02-02-2011 01:53 PM

I love the color of your rug. goes great with the quilt for a border.

Raggiemom 02-02-2011 01:55 PM

I like it the way it is. But if you want it bigger, than add a plain one.

Janet L52 02-02-2011 02:08 PM

Your quilt is so pretty. I think a solid border would be the perfect finishing touch!

ann clare 02-02-2011 02:09 PM

Beautiful.

stacey65 02-02-2011 02:10 PM

very pritty.. good job

jljack 02-02-2011 02:16 PM

I would really prefer a border on it....it needs a "frame" to hold your eye inside. Pick one of the colors in the blocks. I like the pattern!!

Linda B 02-02-2011 02:50 PM

I'll go with the minority on this one -- I like it the way it is - no border and I'd even use the sashing fabric for the binding. That being said, however, if you really need a border, how about using one of the tiny print greys I see on the right side of the picture? I'd also like to know the name/method of this block. Truly love your quilt.

Cherylsea 02-02-2011 02:54 PM

That is really pretty and I'm with the minority - I like it the way it is. maybe a solid binding picking out a color from the sashing?

wraez 02-02-2011 03:10 PM

I love this pattern, it is so fun and your quilt turned out wonderful.

I think it stands alone, but do some 'auditioning' of fabrics to see what you find most pleasing.

warm quilt hugs, sue in CA

hperttula123 02-02-2011 03:14 PM

I like it how it is. Sometimes it's nice to not have boarders.

wolph33 02-02-2011 03:24 PM

looks great as is -but a boarder would look good too-a black border

The inside of the block is D4p but I just made it up as I went along--didn't like the look of trying to match seams so added the sashes! Used up lots of 5 " blocks I had made from scraps.
Thanks.

rusty quilter 02-02-2011 03:52 PM

A solid color border would pull all of those patterns together.

BevF 02-02-2011 04:25 PM

If I were to put another border on it I'd go with the grey-green (the darker color in the sashing). Something neutral that lends itself with they rest of the blocks. Very well done!

Friendly Quilter 02-02-2011 04:26 PM

I would finish it off with a darker border.

I agree. It's a scrappy quilt, so it should end there. I love it though. I'm going to make a d4p soon. Thanks for the ideas!

BevF 02-02-2011 04:39 PM

Actually, your flooring color looks great for a border color. However, if you use something like that as binding I think that would complete it. Sometimes it just a small touch that works better.

JJean 02-02-2011 05:06 PM

Lovely quilt! :D

earthwalker 02-02-2011 05:10 PM

I think a nice solid dark binding would set it off without the need for another border. Very nice quilt by the way!

19angel52 02-03-2011 04:40 AM

I think a small border would be good - in a solid color. I'm partial to adding a border or two - sort of gives the piece a framed look....

farmer623 02-03-2011 04:54 AM

Binding it in a dark color would be good. It depends on what you're using it for and whether or not it needs to be bigger. Beautiful Cowan, Tennessee! I had relatives there growing up, and I remember it well.

quilter68 02-03-2011 05:21 AM

All I can say is "Lovely".

doglover 02-03-2011 06:01 AM

Forgive this new quilter but PLEASE, how did you do this? Does this pattern have a name? I love the pattern and would love to make a quilt like this one. If you would tell me how, I really would appreciate it.
thanks

tinliz 02-03-2011 06:14 AM

Love it as is. If you need it larger, I think a darker print that reads almost solid would be nice for a boarder. I think plain solid would not be in keeping with your scrappy print look. Is it a D4P?

thegypsy1968 02-03-2011 06:26 AM

Definitely solid border..but it is one sweet quilt..sometimes the simple scrappy's are just precious...Well done!!

It is made with four 5" squares; then you make 1' cuts left and right and top and bottom of center; rotate the larger pieces and resew; then square up your blocks. (Then it's called a D4P---a disappearing four patch) I just added the sashing pieces so I wouldn't have to worry about matching all those seams you get. Of course you could use larger squares. I was just trying to use of leftover material.

Pat75 02-03-2011 07:55 AM

I love your quilt .It is so charming. If you need it to be bigger I would add a dark border .If not leave it alone. It really looks good.
