Settlers Trail

I saw this quilt in this thread.

http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...n-t224964.html

So I stopped working on my lots of blocks project as I was dying to try this quilt. I had bunches of left over 2.5 squares for my the Cross and H quilts that I made recently.

I can't imagine the size squares used in that quilt, they must be 0.5 inch lol. Here are the blocks that make up the design and when sewed together are already 55x55.

Rosyhf 07-05-2013 12:21 PM

I put it right over the current quilt I am working and must get back today as I have had my fix lol. It is a beautiful quilt and I had a fun time making it as it went so smoothly and was a nice break from the blocks on the board lol.

Since it is already 55x55. I will put a 3/4 inch border on it and then do some more smaller nine patch to go for the second border or maybe a piano key border, don't know yet

lynnie 07-05-2013 12:23 PM

very nice, I love the scrappy look

Rosyhf 07-05-2013 12:30 PM

I figured it out. The big nine patch measures 18x18. After I add the border I will make the second border out of the large nine patch and that will add 36 inches to the sides and top and bottom and that will be a nice size. This will have to wait, because I must get back to my current quilt. I just had to have a detour lol.

I always enjoy seeing what lovely ideas you come up with and I am always inspired.

I would love to spend a week in your sewing room. I am sure it would uncover all sorts of treasures.

Raggiemom 07-05-2013 01:24 PM

Very nice. Great use of scraps.

cjsews 07-05-2013 01:34 PM

Nice job. I saw the post the other day and thought, ANOTHER ONE ON THE BUCKET LIST. I like working with smaller pieces so it will take forever to get a full quilt.

mighty 07-05-2013 01:49 PM

Great work!!!!!!!

This is already 55x55 and it only took two days and not complete days.

nicely done... i like that pattern, too

redquilter 07-05-2013 02:31 PM

Oh I like that a lot! Love the scrappy colors on the white. Really pops

djmat 07-05-2013 03:11 PM

Great stuff, way to go! I can appreciate a good detour like that.

nanacc 07-05-2013 03:31 PM

Wow! I'm amazed at the volume and beauty of the work you have done in a short time! I understand your side trip to try another idea! I am always finding a new pattern or idea to distract me from my current job!
Thanks for showing us your great ideas!

nanacc 07-05-2013 03:35 PM

One question.......I have a lot of muslin tone on tone (sort of antique design). How do you think this design would look with the muslin. I know it wouldn't be as bright, but I thought I might try. Any thoughts?

owlvamp 07-05-2013 03:36 PM

I like both of your patterns up on the board.

rrhaigh 07-05-2013 03:41 PM

Very nice! I have a lot of nine patches that I was wondering what to do with and along came your post! Thanks for sharing!

dunster 07-05-2013 03:41 PM

On the original thread I asked how big the squares were, and the answer was 1/2 inch finished.

rwquilts 07-05-2013 03:44 PM

You've got some really great quilts going! Love, love, love scrappies!

I think it would look better. I used the white because that is what I have a supply of. You quilt will have a nice mellow look.

Tweety2911 07-05-2013 04:19 PM

Love the layout, very inspiring!

twinkie 07-05-2013 04:20 PM

Oh my, so the squares were cut at 1 inch. I did detour to a Burgoyne Surrounded another time and made the one block and I had used 1.5 inch squares and that is lowest I will go lol.

nanacc 07-05-2013 04:29 PM

Thank you, Rosyhf. Will have to get out my box of scrap squares!!

Both are beautiful. I really like your 'detour quilt top'. A real good use of scraps. It will make a gorgeous quilt.
