Sewing Machine Cover

1 Attachment(s)
I was somewhat neglecting my mom's birthday quilt this weekend as I am so exited about my new sewing corner that I couldn't wait but had to use the machine... I finally got a sewing corner!
I did put some scraps together and made a machine cover. As this is my first piece of machine quilting, I did not dare to do FMQ (my trial piece showed that I still need to practise a lot first!) but (more or less) straight lines. Here's the result:

Your points seem to match so that is half the battle. You may want to start of doing what is called Crosshatching. They are straight lines normally at a 45 degree angle. Hand quilters use that stitch as filler for the background on their lovely applique quilts. Job well done.

That is really beautiful! You definitely have an eye for color and design. Congratulations on your sewing corner!

Your machine cover is lovely just the way you did it. I believe that the straight line quilting looks super. Your lines are so even. Makes me want to make one for my machine. You did a super job. Did you have a pattern or did you just wing it? BrendaK

I love the simplicity of adding the zigzag. Just enough to add some style. Love the simple quilting too. Makes me want to go make some for my machines now. Thanks for the idea.

I had a look at a number of online patterns and tutorials and then decided to just make my own. It's somehow based on http://sewdelicious.com.au/2013/01/q...-tutorial.html, but only for the shape (and the lining) - I created my own by adding some scrappy triangles.

JuneBillie 06-22-2015 11:14 AM

It's beautiful....

I like the colour, too! The best part is: The cover didn't cost anything as I used coloured scraps for the triangles, an old white bed sheet for the white triangles, an old duvet cover for the lining (it was torn up to be used to serve as cleaning rags and I stitched it together again), and the yellow fabric is vintage fabric I got from my mom (quite a bit of what she gave me was from feed sacks - not sure about this one?)
