I know some people don't think you should quilt on Sundays, being a day of rest.......I love quiliting on Sundays

I finished this Stashbuster quilt top yesterday (Sunday LOL) It's all batiks but I have to get out for border fabric. A nice blue for a 1 1/2 inch border and then a deep brown for a 3 inch outer border. I'm calling it Land and Sea because of the colors.

Patty....I totally relate to this old wives tale. Growing up, my mother wouldn't let me sew on Sunday because it was a day of rest. She had no problem with making me do housework, cooking, or cleaning. I think it had something to do with her being superstitous...bad luck and all to sew on Sunday. By golly now I do what I want to do and if the Spirits aren't happy...sew what?
By the way, that's a beautiful quilt...bet you couldn't have done a better job on it any other day of the week. lol.

stonington 02-02-2009 12:55 PM

Love it! and the name you have given it. :D I find quilting very restful- perfect for Sunday.

patty48 02-02-2009 12:58 PM

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I only quilt on Sundays AFTER watching Coronation Street.

LOL

SulaBug 02-02-2009 01:00 PM

Hi Patti,
Your quilt is so pretty. I just love the colors that you have put together. I can't wait to see it when you have your borders on. Thank you for sharing with all of us!! :D

mountain-moma 02-02-2009 01:21 PM

I love, love that top and the name goes just find for it so when do i come and pick it up lol after you finsh it or before

Tiffany 02-02-2009 01:22 PM

I find Sundays are a great day to quilt. I watch football and I get so much done during the course of a 3 hour game. Funny, I wouldn't have considered quilting to be "work" so I would not have included it with the 'day of rest.' To me quilting is relaxing and a great creative outlet. Without it, I think I would go a bit loony!

Chele 02-02-2009 01:23 PM

That's really pretty. It sure sparkles!

mountain-moma 02-02-2009 01:23 PM

ksusan 02-02-2009 02:14 PM

Patty, this is absolutely beautiful. I love it!

sewaholic 02-02-2009 02:16 PM

Fantastic. :D

SaraSewing 02-02-2009 02:20 PM

My mother always said that if you sew on Sunday you'll have to pick it all out with your nose in heaven! (if I get there!). But I find that sewing is relaxing and so I like to relax on Sunday. YOur land and sea is sure nice.

Belinda 02-02-2009 02:23 PM

PRETTY!!!!!!!!

quiltmaker101 02-02-2009 02:26 PM

To those who think you shouldn't sew on Sunday - WHATEVER!!!

Those of us who work spend all day Saturday cleaning, cooking, doing laundry and errands just so we CAN sew on Sunday!!!

If it is creative, relaxing and makes you happy, do it any time you like!

Love the quilt! I need a small batik collection like that, but I don't know where I'd put them!

zyxquilts 02-02-2009 02:42 PM

It's beautiful! I'm looking forward to seeing it again with the borders on. :D:D

MAXIES2 02-02-2009 02:49 PM

Patty, I was amazed to read you watch Coronation street, what story line are you up to ?
My mother in law would never knit on a Sunday , she could be bored witless but would not pick up the needles.
Your quilt is lovely, beautiful colours

The debate has raged for a few thousand years over what does and does not constitute "work". According to some, the essence can be found in "G-d created the world in 6 days and on the seventh day, He rested." The follow-on reasoning is that any action that can lead to the creation of something constitutes "work", from which we should rest on the Sabbath (seventh day). ooooooooooook. here's my favorite loophole.

all the supplies and equiment we use were made and purchased on one of the other days. therefore, the question can legitimately be asked: when we work on a quilt, are we "creating"? or are we merely rearranging bits and pieces of which have already been created?

things that make you go "hmmmmmmmmmmmmm" ....

Shemjo 02-02-2009 03:07 PM

Beautiful quilt! I love to quilt on Sunday! It is my rest! :?

redquilter 02-02-2009 03:13 PM

Never heard that superstition before, but it sure didn't make a bit of difference in your quilt. It's beautiful. Can't wait to see it with the borders. Did you create the pattern yourself or was it one I could find somewhere? Thanks.

NiceNCLady 02-02-2009 04:27 PM

As I was growing up, I always heard "Sew on Sunday, get a whipping on Monday" lol Apparently it didn't get through to me because I love to quilt on Sunday. And you're quilt is lovely.

patty48 02-02-2009 06:14 PM

Maxies2: We are sooooo far behind the UK in coronation street episodes. We are at when David is sentenced to 4 months for pushing gail down the stairs.

Redquilter: The site is Stash Pot Pie (I don't have the exact site name, but if you google it the site comes up). It's a Quilt of a Month club that my local quilt shop is running. I believe that you can also register for it online. The name of this particular quilt is called "Pie Chart" (quilt number 3). This club is supposed to help you use up your stash. So far I think I've bought more for these quilts (borders, batting and backing) than used up! I love it though. My favorite quilts are scrappy ones.

Thanks for all the compliments!

littlehud 02-02-2009 06:32 PM

OH. So pretty. I love batiks. Keep sewing on Sunday.

I do love technicalities! LOL

I work my butt off all week, if I managed to not work Sunday I am DEFINITELY quilting and that's all there is to it!

pocoellie 02-02-2009 07:46 PM

Very pretty!! Love the colors.

Marcia 02-02-2009 08:19 PM

Patty--your quilt is so peaceful and serene to look at. I really like the colors you used in it. Very pretty.

Harmony 02-02-2009 08:21 PM

Great colors in your quilt! Can't wait to see it quilted!

When you have an outside job, Sunday is half your weekend--and the first half is usually spent doing laundry & housework. So if you're going to do any quilting, that leaves Sunday to do it!

Janstar 02-02-2009 09:29 PM

Nice quilt, great colors! I always quilt on Sundays.

 What a funny mental image! Now who says we'll have noses in heaven??

ScrapQuilter 02-02-2009 09:51 PM

You are not to work on sunday and like you said you love to quilt. NOT WORK to quilters.
Maybe you should stop cooking on Sunday - BOL see how that goes over.

Tiffany 02-04-2009 07:25 AM

My grandmother refused to clean house or cook on Sundays. She always ordered from Kentucky Fried Chicken, which I thought was rather funny. She refused to cook on Sundays but it seemed she was fine with allowing someone else to do the cooking for her.

dreamer2009 02-04-2009 07:48 AM

WOW!
Really beautiful.
Can't wait to see
finished.

Mplsgirl 02-04-2009 07:54 AM

That is gorgeous! I faintly remember all stores being closed, etc., on Sundays when I was growing up. But no quilting?

Deara 02-04-2009 08:11 AM

Oh my, what a beautiful quilt top. It's an eye catcher.

sewnsewer2 02-04-2009 01:34 PM

Very pretty!

PrettyKitty 02-05-2009 01:04 AM

I love that! The colours are great, well done!

I remember everything being closed on Sundays when I was little. Except, for some reason, garden centres, which our parents used to drag us around! Then they changed the law years ago and now Sunday is like any other day, but the shops close by 5pm.

k9colliedog 02-05-2009 01:39 AM

What a beautiful quilt. If it wasn't for Sundays, I would hardly get any quilting done. Sundays is my day.

Evelynquilts 02-05-2009 03:27 AM

that is a very pretty quilt :D

Quilt4u 02-05-2009 04:18 AM

Beautiful. And I find quilting on Sunday perfect because it is not work.

sandpat 02-05-2009 05:56 AM

That quilt is very very pretty!! I love the scrappy with the white! Great job..Sunday or not

I quilt on Sunday and any other day when I have a free couple of minutes!

Bevanger 02-05-2009 06:16 AM
