But then found the butterflies and paisley.....

My DH has been making noises about making a quilt - I asked him did he want to look through the material I've got in the stash and he said, "no"... so the fish and others is what he picked out!

And I made a baby 'blanket' for a possible new grand-daughter - I say possible because our son and daughter-in-law are hoping to be getting a daughter from Korea sometime in the near future. I figured I'd better get it done or she'd be here and I'd be going... gee...
I didn't put any batting in, just two layers of flannel.

reneebobby 07-21-2008 03:44 AM

Oh the fabric is nice I can't wait to see the salmon quilt and the baby quilt is so cute.

Be careful, Janeen - having DH talk about making a quilt is a slippery slope (ask me how I know!) My DH was up until 11 last night playing in my quilt layout program, and his alarm goes off at 4:30 a.m.! I now have piles of blue fabrics and cutting table ladies that know he walks out with more yardage than I do :D We went to the quilt shop on Saturday for some Sulky Blendables thread and some mystery quilt instructions - walked out with those and fabric (of course - that always happens!)

Great baby quilt - I love the patterns and colors

Like your fabric and quilt!!!!

Chele 07-21-2008 05:01 AM

Pretty fabrics! And I love the quilt. I've been wanting to use flannel as batting. Is it easy to quilt?

when I made a rag quilt with homespun I used flannel as 'batting' and it worked fine for stippling/meandering, etc

this crib blankie is just flannel on top and flannel panel ( ) on the bottom... it wanted to skip around when I tried meandering so wound up stitching in ditch with a walking foot

Ooooooooooooo look at all the pretties. You did good. After looking at your fish fabric, I think I'll make hubby a fish quilt. I'll need to search foe fabrics. Never looked for fish before. LOL

mgshaw 07-21-2008 06:31 AM

Love your fabric and the quilt is very cute, but well DH's fish fabric well sorry but it looks like something my DH would pick out!!!!!

Janeen 07-21-2008 06:38 AM

 I figure it's his quilt he can choose whatever he wants...

He's been working on closing in a room out in the shop building so he can have an air conditioned room to work in... I keep telling him that if he takes OUT the scroll saw and puts in a carpet it would be perfect for a LONGARM.. (like a Gracie, etc)....

I think that would be PERFECT - I make quilts and he does the quilting...
sounds good to me!!

Your title made me laugh! Beautiful quilt--for the hope to come soon granddaughter. :D

Nice stuff - I thought your DH did a good job picking out fabrics.

a FYI - cotton flannel generally SHRINKS - a LOT! At least the stuff from a few years back did.

So, if you want the finished quilt to be flat, wash the flannel in HOT water before putting it in the quilt.

You might have to press it before using it.

It's been a while since I've used flannel for anything, so maybe the new ones behave better.

sewnsewer2 07-21-2008 08:56 AM

Great choice of fabrics and I love the quilt!

mgshaw 07-21-2008 09:52 AM

Janeen, After rereading what I wrote earlier, It sounded bad I didnt mean to imply that it was ugly fabric, what I meant was more on the lines of this, I think about making DH a quilt and get a picture in my head and then he goes and picks out something totally different and it just blows my idea out of whack and have to start all over on the planning.
I think your DH did a good job of picking his focal fabric and coordinating fabrics!
Sorry if the earlier post sounded rude!
