Signature quilts and baby quilt

4 Attachment(s)
I have been working on a DJ, but had to set it aside while I did 3 signature quilts for 3 family reunions in the next 6 weeks. I also got a baby quilt done for a nephew's baby girl.
The first one is for my parents' family reunion, with people coming from Colorado, North Carolina, Missouri, Kansas, Minnesota and North Dakota. Thanks for looking.

The next one is for my maternal grandparents reunion

This one is for my husband's family reunion

And this one is for the newest addition to our family, Oaklee Marjean, whose family is really into raising and riding horses.

Great quilts! You've been very busy. What is the name of the block on your second quilt? It is a lovely simple block.

I don't know the name of the quilt block, but what I did, was to take 10 inch squares, think they are called layer cakes, and cut out a 3 inch strip, figuring out how diagonal you want to go. Then I used the white strip, cut at 3 1/2inches and sew them in. Think it squared at like 9 1/2. I used the cut pieces for most of the binding. I didn't sew those pieces together the way you should, which would lose too much material, but I did use the slant of the cut. Hope this explains it, if not, just pm me.

I know the quilts have been very time comsumming but just think how wonderful it will be to see everyone. I wish my family would still get together as we did when we were growing up and lived closer. Your quilts are great.

Quiltngolfer 06-28-2012 10:55 AM

Thanks for the directions. The white strip is ideal for a signature quilt. Your quilts will be treasured I'm sure.

Wow! Is your motto "Sleep is overrated"??? LOL! You have been a busy, busy gal! And with wonderful results! I love all your quilts but especially the "square" signature quilt. Is that a pattern of your own design or is it a "known" pattern? If you designed it, you should do a tutorial on it because it's hreat! Have fun at all your reunions! And thanks for sharing your pix with us!

Go back up to my second post, where I gave a brief description of how I did it. And, yes, sleep is overrated. I generally am lucky to get 5 to 6 hours, because sewing is so relaxing to me.

You have really been busy. You did a wonderful job on all of them.

ladypetite 06-30-2012 06:03 AM

I agree with everyone else. You have been working very hard and they are lovely. I too especially like the uniqueness of the second one. I also love the 3rd one. I like how on the first one you have set the one block at a different angle from the others so that you can show their signature as representative from the joining of the family clans.

nannya54 06-30-2012 07:17 AM

I really like your signature quilt designs! Simple designs that will highlight the people signatures. Great choices.

Latrinka 06-30-2012 07:20 AM

margie77072 06-30-2012 12:48 PM

I like that while they are all signature quilts they are all very different. The horse quilt looks like seeing a herd of horses thru a window. Wonderful job!!!

debbieoh 06-30-2012 06:00 PM

Love the quilts. I'm in the middle of making a signature quilt for my Nephews wedding

That is so funny that it was noticed. Thank you. I didn't notice it until I had started quilting it, and decided that every quilt needs to be unique. So, on that one, I wrote my parents names, birth and death dates, and their wedding date, and then the first names of the 9 children with their birth year. I was going to claim it for my signature, because I can be sort of the odd one out, but decided to do the parent thing. Happy that I did.
