silk crazy quilt

I posted the pieced squares some time ago and have been working on embroidering each one since then. There are 50 10x10 squares and so far I have worked on 23 of them.
I am attaching a few now so I can get some opinions from you all.

Initially I was afraid of putting too much on them. I also was worried that too much color would not work for me.
Now that I have several finished I can see that more would be better and that I should add more color. Where I did that I liked them better.
I figure I can add more stitching later once I put them together and see where it needs more and I am not opposed to ripping out some stitches to redo or change the color. Some of my stitches are really uneven. I've redone some but am having a really hard time making them consistent. Grrrr.

There is one fabric (a satiny wedgewood green) with embroidery on it already. I did NOT do that work myself . . .

Unfortunately, these images sort of blur what is visible in real life. You can hardly see some of what I did, the colors blend so well!

Any thoughts out there?

Thank you!
Linda

That is gorgeous in every respect!!

The quilt is truly lovely. I would be cautious about removing stitches as some silks might leave needle holes. Maybe practice on scraps first. Maybe you could stitch over or next to places you want to change?
Whatever you do this will be beautiful.

Love, love love them !!! I would add lace. Maybe some lace on each one. With buttons ! And beads! I love crazy quilting and yours are inspiring me. Look at www.pintangle.com.

Love them. Love crazy quilts. I love the different embroidery. I have one container for nothing but crazy quilts with some blocks.

twinkie 09-09-2015 03:38 AM

That is very attractive. So much work in a quilt like this. I think you did a good job. It will look great on my bed. Would you like me to PM you my address? LOL

ManiacQuilter2 09-09-2015 04:44 AM

I would agree with you. Gradually add the stitches to where you think there should be more and stop when you think there is enough. Easier to add the stitches then ripping them out.

OhCanada 09-09-2015 04:55 AM

I think it is looking quite gorgeous already. I agree with the previous comment to add some other types of embellishments - lace, charms, buttons etc. Some beading would also be stunning.

Beautiful. Great job

Really nice. Personally, I like the antique crazy quilts with tons of embroidery on them. I don't think you can over do it with the embroidery.

gramquilter2 09-09-2015 02:06 PM

Your crazy quilt will be beautiful when finished.

Wonderful work. Don't be afraid to go BIG when connecting the squares to each other.

kaylfordsollimo 09-11-2015 08:37 PM

What an ambitious project! So far, so good.

earthwalker 09-11-2015 10:33 PM

Beautiful, some great suggestions from the others, maybe you could add some appliqued pieces in the broderie perse style. These could be applied to the plainer pieces in between your lovely embroidery. Don't be scared to be a little 'over the top', other colours could be introduced this way. Braids, beads and old buttons (the small decorative glass kind) can also be inserted here and there. I think your piece is just lovely....let us know how you progress ....you know how we love pictures.

Fotoula 09-12-2015 05:29 PM

This is a fine quilt. Your heirs will be wowed by your work. I made one 2 years back, won some ribbons. I found that I was best avoiding continuous lines right on edges. Things like your little flowers worked much better for me too. I used the Montano books for inspiration. I was planning on having mine to enjoy as a lap quilt. DH had a fit and immediately hung it on the wall where he can admire it from his recliner.

beaqltr 09-29-2015 04:17 PM

I like your embroidery. Don't do too much ripping out. You will learn as you go. Crazy quilts are not meant to be perfect unless you are teaching or selling.

I think you may need more dimension - beads, heavier embroidery threads like DMC Perle, lace, findings, and buttons.

lfstamper 09-29-2015 05:02 PM

Nicely done!!!
