Simple Cheater Quilt

1 Attachment(s)
At first I hesitated to post this picture but then I realized how many people are new to quilting and may not have the time for a fancy project. I had planned to piece this but when the fabric arrived in the mail, I found the print to be much larger than I anticipated and if I pieced it, it would be too big for this little baby so I had it machine quilted and I added the binding.

Looks great.

LadyElisabeth 01-13-2016 05:01 PM

Cheater quilts are wonderful if you need a quilt in a hurry, especially for children. It is the LOVE that goes into a quilt that matters.

QuiltnNan 01-13-2016 05:09 PM

nicely done

Tartan 01-13-2016 05:27 PM

Cute panel quilt!

Grandma Bonnie 01-13-2016 05:28 PM

I love the panel and the beautiful quilt you made from it. Great job!

NatalieF 01-13-2016 05:30 PM

It's beautiful!

Doggramma 01-13-2016 05:42 PM

It's really cute. They have that panel hanging at my LQS and I've always liked it

Sandra in Minnesota 01-13-2016 05:54 PM

Very nice - I am sure the baby will grow up and love it!

ube quilting 01-13-2016 05:56 PM

I love this artist, I forget her name this moment. I bought six of these panels when they first came out and still have two just waiting for babies.

This is a great way to do some practicing if you are a beginning quilter.

peace

That's a wonderful panel! you did a great job with it.

ckcowl 01-13-2016 07:22 PM

I love your Panel quilt! There are so many great panels available these days that spark creativity. I wish people would get passed that negative term so many tend to use concerning panel quilts. I've spent 100 hours and hundreds of dollars making a fabulous quilt that started with a panel-- there wasn't a single moment of ( cheating) involved.

Grandma Peg 01-13-2016 09:17 PM

That is a cute panel and you did a nice job of finishing it.

quiltingshorttimer 01-13-2016 10:33 PM

Nothing cheating about using a panel! (let' face it---sometimes using a panel can be a lot of work!) I really like this panel and have it-debating whether to use for youngest g-son as a "grandma's house quilt" or hold in hopes DD has pregnancy news for us in next 6 months.

I've called them efficiency quilts for ages for that very reason. :) Really dislike calling any work I might do as "cheating". :(

Yes Jan, I think that way too. After all even with a panel as this which is so pretty, it still has to be put together as any quilt. :)

Homespun 01-14-2016 05:11 AM

It is a very nice quilt. Cheater cloth is OK.

quilterpurpledog 01-14-2016 05:20 AM

Really nice quilt from an especially nice panel. Why not use them whole? They offer a means of adding lots of color and interest to a quilt that would take a very long time to duplicate if you appliqued them. Love that panel.

Bonbonary 01-14-2016 06:40 AM

I agree with Lady Elisabeth. It's the love that makes it special.

lynnie 01-14-2016 09:08 AM

love those blocks, great cheater quilt

djmat 01-14-2016 09:14 AM

Very nice quilt. You are right, it is always nice for new quilters to have a beginning project like yours.

QuiltNama 01-14-2016 09:26 AM

I also made that panel up into a baby quilt for a friend as I just loved it and thought it was darling. Our son came to visit with the 3 youngest grandsons (ages 5, 7&8) and they had a ball with the quilt. They spent several hours finding all the items starting with the letters in each block. It's not a cheater quilt....it's an adventure quilt. It's wonderful.

ManiacQuilter2 01-14-2016 11:08 AM

What a lovely panel. Very nicely done.

QUILTNMO 01-14-2016 11:50 AM

very cute!!!

cathyvv 01-14-2016 12:19 PM

Love it! You're not the only one who does that...I've done it several times.

Purpleprint 01-14-2016 01:53 PM

I think this is a great way to make a baby quilt. AND you got it done ! I have 2 in the works that I have not gotten finished.

Mariposa 01-14-2016 02:21 PM

Cute panel! Nice work!

BrendaK 01-14-2016 02:24 PM

Adorable panel and what you did looks good. BrendaK

Sharonquilts 01-14-2016 04:10 PM

Oh I was just looking at this panel or at least one very similar to it. Love it. Hey, everything doesn't have to be fully pieced to be a quilt. Great job.

mucky 01-14-2016 04:25 PM

Very quick and attractive project

The panel is "Hungry Animal Alphabet" by J. Wecker Frisch for Quilting Treasures. I am using this panel and wanted to embroider the names of all the items in each panel on the quilt to make it an 'I Spy' but I don't have time. Hopefully parents will point out everything to the baby.

Tweety2911 01-14-2016 04:59 PM

Cheater quilts are so handy and make quick quilts and yours is adorable.

twinkie 01-15-2016 03:08 AM

I have made cheater quilts in the past. Nothing wrong with that. Thanks for posting.

jmoore 01-15-2016 04:16 AM

super cute... and like Jan said, it's a nice efficiency quilt. : )

donnajean 01-15-2016 04:33 AM

I would have a hard time cutting this panel up. All quilts don't have to be hundreds of small pieces. Looks great!

Beachbaby12 01-15-2016 05:31 AM

You did a great job!

I bought five or six of these panels and still have a couple. Here is what I did on one of them. I, too, love the artist's illustrations!
I cut up the panel squares and used them like the covers of a book. This view is of the inside. Each "book" closed with either a piece of Velcro, a large snap, a button or a shoestring tie, shortened so as to not create a hazard.

Very clever of you to make a book of the blocks.

ccthomas 01-15-2016 07:43 PM

Nice panel quilt.

busy fingers 01-16-2016 12:03 PM

Love that panel.

I bought it a few years ago, chopped it up and made it into a cloth book for my granddaughter. She has many hours of fun looking at the pictures.....so do I.
