This one kind of hurts my eyes. :P The story behind this, is I purchased some quilting stash and fabric from the niece of a quilter who passed away. I finished a quilt a week or two ago from her stash. This is another one. She had completed a bunch of the 9 patch blocks. Many aren't perfect. The points don't exactly line up on some etc. But, I didn't want them to go to waste. And the fabric is for sure quilt store quality. There was enough fabric left for me to cut out the middle blocks and the sashing. There's also enough left to bind it in the wild purple fabric. I had some yardage in my stash for the backing that matches. So, I put all the blocks and sashing together and it's ready to quilt. It came out to a large lap or crib size top. I'll probably quilt it in off-white thread to somewhat calm down the brightness of it. This quilter was much more into the bright florals than I am. LOL. But, it will be a good utility quilt of some kind:>

Great job - I think you will like it more once it's quilted.

I'm not usually crazy about florals, but I love purple. I really like this quilt. Nice job!!!

Well I personally like it, very pretty
I can understand it's not to everyones liking but I think it turned out very nice. I am glad you "saved" the blocks and I think you will like it more once it is quilted. Thanks for sharing.

Great woman's quilt, makes me feel like a summer garden. Would be absolutely beautiful on a table in a garden for a luncheon.

barnbum 03-06-2010 05:13 AM

It's beautiful!! It's such a simple design--yet a garden it makes.

Brenda Retzlaff 03-06-2010 05:27 AM

Once it's quilted it will be perfect. I love the colors. I don't think that anyone...but you would notice if some of the blocks aren't perfect. Looks great to me.

champagnebubbles 03-06-2010 08:09 AM

Do you all think if I bind it in the same puple floral that will be too much? I'm wondering if I should bind it in the fushia backing fabric. Ideally, I think I'd bind it in the off white block fabric, or off-white. But, I'm not going to buy fabric to finish this one as I'm determined to use what I've got.

Bevanger 03-06-2010 09:17 AM

sure is pretty

quiltincharlotte 03-06-2010 10:12 AM

I love purples so think it is gorgeous!!!

Beautiful.

Hi Candace,
After it is quilted, if you still think it is way too loud, I have 2 suggestions:
donate it somewhere - children's hospital, nursing home, local fire or police (they both carry blankets for kids to cuddle with here in CO - I'm assuming other places do the same thing)

The second idea is a little more 'artsy'. Find some silhouettes that you like and applique them to the top. You'd end up with silhouette framed in the flower blocks. Should be gorgeous when done.

I'm quilting it with off-white thread and that seems to be little more calming to my eye. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll post a photo when I'm done. I'm doing a simple computerized embroiderydesign in each plain, floral block which is taking some time.

kd124 03-09-2010 11:17 PM

I thinks it's really pretty and I'm not a purple person.

dkabasketlady 03-12-2010 03:06 PM

Very nice and will be beautiful when quilted!

Candace 03-12-2010 03:23 PM

Aaaarg. I'm almost done quilting it and I ran out of thread. My LQS doesn't cary the weight of Mettlers that I'm using. So, now it will have to wait until I can get some more from another place further away. I hate it when that happens.

paintbug 03-12-2010 03:26 PM

I am not a purple person either, but for some reason the quilt makes me feel very warm and summery> I think you will have a beautiful quilt when you are finished quilting it.

Jingle 03-13-2010 07:34 PM

I think it is gorgeous, I don't have those colors in my house but, I still like it.

MaryAnna 03-30-2010 04:51 PM

It doesn't hurt my eyes! Great job! Great fabric! You did a great job!
Kind Regards,
MaryAnna

joy 03-30-2010 05:33 PM

Why not calm it down with green stippling... !!!
