I saw my favorite LQS was holding a class last Monday to make this project and I thought it would be a good warm up for the large bargello I plan to start soon. It was a fun, quick and easy project.

The instructor recommended getting a gold tassel for it if it was to be a wall hanging. I think I'll use it for a table runner, but it's a great idea.

What a good job you did. The red fabric is very vibrant is it a batik or hand dyed? I would like to make one for the hubby.

danmar 07-02-2010 07:48 PM

That is just awesome! You did a wonderful job on it!

You know, I decided at the last minute to go and yanked the red out of my very small stash and then purchased the white and blue at the store. The red is just a bright red with som blackish squigles. The others in the class had completely different fabric and all of them came out really nice.

I have that pattern ... it was in a catalog from Hancocks and I even bought the fabric... now to find the time

Was it hard ? Any secret tips ?

It was very, very easy. I would not cut the length of the strips until I was done. I didn't want to make the 1" strips so I cut them 2" and the extra length I had left on allowed me to do that.

Also, I did not use binding, as you can see.

Did you use a pillow turn method ?

What a cute flag quilt! That is just adorable! I could actually see using that somehow to make Quilts of Valor quilts - put that in the center, or in the corner - or anywhere... Just fantastic!

I do! I finished the flag and quilted a small quilt yesterday, putting binding on today and quilting another. Once those are finished, I should be able to start BIG orange! Target start date: Sunday, July 4! (I am SO happy it's raining!)

CarolinePaj 07-03-2010 09:52 AM

That is fantastic... I would love to be able to do a bargello... but just don't think I could!

Hugs

Caroline, it's shockingly easy! LOL You just sew strips together and then cut them apart across the seams and rearrange them and then sew them back together.
