smallest PP I've ever done!

1 Attachment(s)
I mentioned in an earlier thread that my new year's resolution was to learn new techniques, try more complicated patterns and go "smaller"...

I think I've done it! This block is 6.25 x 6.25 ... I will do 9 in total and there's a wall hanging done! It took me about 1.5 hours to do the complete block.

Don't worry ladies! I still have lots of "littles" to give to you two - I do get tired of looking at the same fabric all the time!!

Just love this and the colors are just in time for Spring.. Nice job

Tartan 03-20-2016 10:40 AM

Cute little block!

lynnie 03-20-2016 10:58 AM

nice little block

QUILTNMO 03-20-2016 11:43 AM

nice block and colors!!!

Mariposa 03-20-2016 11:50 AM

Nice work, and pretty block!

jclinganrey 03-20-2016 11:57 AM

Beautiful!!! What's the name of the block?

tessagin 03-20-2016 12:10 PM

So cute!! Anxious to see finished.

JuneBillie 03-20-2016 12:12 PM

Pretty block, pretty colors, and nice work. :)

MarionsQuilts 03-20-2016 12:22 PM

Thanks all! It's called Siena square, paper-pieced. I got it off craftsy.com

Once I got the first block done (1.5 hours LOL) the other three only took 1/2 hour each. So I have four done, and 5 more to go!

So I have four of them done now ... thought I would be able to do a 9-block, but evidently, I can't count, and can only do 8!!!

I have some ideas:

4x2 with sashing in between each block

or do a 3x3 and make the middle block the same but with a different colour (red / orange / blue)

Thoughts?

BrendaK 03-20-2016 04:27 PM

Very pretty. BrendaK

Plee1053 03-20-2016 04:54 PM

Love the pattern and colors!

Merrylin 03-20-2016 05:44 PM

Beautifully done! Great job.

QM 03-20-2016 05:47 PM

Sweet block

Homespun 03-21-2016 04:39 AM

Nicely done...please show completed project.

QM 03-21-2016 05:37 AM

Looks even better with 4. maybe do 9 with the center something else?

Luv Quilts and Cats 03-21-2016 05:53 AM

I like it! So sunny and bright.

madamefifi 03-21-2016 06:02 AM

I like them just as they are, no sashing. The zigzaggy negative space is interesting!

ManiacQuilter2 03-21-2016 06:03 AM

Great fabrics you used for making this block.

Jingle 03-21-2016 09:12 AM

Very pretty. I don't do small quilts or hangings.

Here are all 8 blocks done. I can be done with 8 if I arrange like this: (OK, I can't figure out how to rotate, but it would length-wise!)

Or, if I do a different block in the center, I can do a 9-block. I'm missing the light yellow at the corners and edges of the blocks. So I could do a completely different block ... or a completely different colour:

I prefer the 9-block layout, but if someone has some sashing / border ideas for the 4x2 ... feel free to post!

Thanks for looking, and all the wonderful comments, and suggestions to come!

weasier22 03-21-2016 01:24 PM

Love your block ... great colors. Can't wait to see more!!! Also love your German Shepherd!

JuneBillie 03-21-2016 02:10 PM

They are really pretty put together. :)

I am working on making 99 that size using pping. They will all be different, but I am having so much fun with them.

ube quilting 03-21-2016 02:11 PM

Marion, I made a few suggestions on the swap page for you to consider and after thinking about it , if you have enough of the blues + one lighter blue to replace the yellow, that would also work for the center block.

I know I'm gonna like it, any way you do it!
peace

So here's the blues! And now I'm going to read what Ube wrote!!!

JuneBillie - 99 blocks OH MY LORD!!!!! I don't think I'm that adventurous yet LOL ... but, you did mention that they were all different, I could probably do that! I do get tired of the same block after 9 or 10!

Can you post pics or point me to that thread? I would love to see those blocks!

Rhonda 03-21-2016 03:50 PM

Love it Marion! I've never paper pieced but I love my minis too

jmoore 03-22-2016 02:45 AM

You're doing a great job on your new PP adventure. Love the fabrics. I recently took a foundation piecing class to improve my skills (also my New Year's resolution)... it's a fun learning experience.

Keep up the good work.

twinkie 03-22-2016 03:26 AM

I just have to learn this technique of paper piecing. Is there a you tube video that shows the process? It looks so interesting.

Karamarie 03-22-2016 04:06 AM

That is very pretty - nice job.

2manyhobbies 03-22-2016 04:54 AM

Very nice job! The smallest I've done were Christmas ornaments that are little mittens. The size of the beaks of the cardinals is tiny tiny tiny!

JanieH 03-22-2016 07:41 AM

Beautifully done! Love your colors.

AlvaStitcher 03-22-2016 12:12 PM

I think it would be interesting to use the same colors in the center block but in reverse order. In other words, switch the positions of the same colors.

Alva - I can't ... LOL I have no more yellow!

Here's what I'm thinking:

thoughts?

gramquilter2 03-22-2016 01:03 PM

Love the colors you are using and great job on your PP. It is going to be a beautiful wall hanging.

ctyankee 03-22-2016 01:05 PM

Lovely! I just love paper-piecing. And your colors are great!

MarionsQuilts 03-22-2016 02:58 PM

So here we go, all sewn together ... it's a tad off on one of the rows, but I've taken it apart twice and can't anymore!

Just have to add some yellow borders and then done!

lass 03-23-2016 01:42 PM

Nice. Love the colors.

Rhonda 03-23-2016 04:37 PM

That came together very nicely! Love how it turned out.
