So Excited! Finished first full sized quilt for myself!
1 Attachment(s)
Well, I finally did it! I attended a quilt retreat with scrap quilting guru Bonnie Hunter in July. The pattern class she taught was with her My Blue Heaven pattern. Here it is Beginning of February and yesterday....drum roll please.....my first full sized quilt that I am keeping for DH and I is now gracing our bed. I named my version, "Starry, starry night" (the name of a pop song when we were much younger). I even sewed down the binding by hand, which isn't my favorite thing, but does give such a nice finish to a binding. (Can you tell I love blue?) Thanks for looking.

it's beautiful... nicely done
Wow. It is really wonderful. I also love blue. You did a great job on this quilt.
That is lovely. Great job. Love the doggy on top of your pillow.
Thanks for all your kind words.
Karen, the doggy was our youngest daughters when she was smaller and Pound Puppies were all the rage. We just recently unearthed it. (BTW she just celebrated her 30th b-day on Tuesday.) She has been living in New Zealand for about 3.5-4 years and I guess it just kinda makes me feel little closer to her. |
Very nice, I love blue too. I might buy this pattern.
What a beautiful quilt! You did a great job.
Beautiful! Like the penguin pillow too!
great job, nice shading
It's a beauty! And sewing the binding on is my least favorite part of quilting. But, I watch TV as I do it and that helps:).
Very pretty quilt. You did a wonderful job. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent! I love blue and white.
You have a right to be proud - you did a lovely job of fabric placement and the quilting looks beautiful too. Congratulations!
Thanks all.
Maureen - You can get the pattern for free if you go to Bonnie's website at quiltville.com. Over on the right side column under Free Scrap Quilt Patterns. Then you scroll down to My Blue Heaven and click. It will give you the pattern and can be printed as pdf. Enjoy! Laurafet - Yeah, I love penguins! NunnyJo and Artsyone - Thanks for the kind words. The shading and color placement really pretty much fell into place all by its self. It was a scrappy quilt and it could be a controlled scrappy or just totally random. I had hard enough doing scrappy so I chose controlled. I will say after this class with Bonnie, I look at scraps a totally different way! ArtsyOne - Thanks for you compliment on the quilting. I have a Bernina on a frame and have the Quilt Motion program. It works very nicely. However, I am new at it and haven't progressed past a panto. This one resembles fluffy clouds, so I thought it would follow through nicely on the theme. |
Congrats, pat yourself on the back, job done great ... Lovely quilt
Congratulations..it is beautiful.
Very beautiful
You quilt is beautiful, Your Puppy is the same pound puppy my son had, he named it "Cooler" He has always kept it and when my 3 year old grand daughter brought it down from his bedroom (the spare room now) he happened to stop by for a visit, and saw it...It was sooo cute he took it away from her and told me that is his...LOL He has a 2 year old little boy now, and took it home with him, and he is 30 years old...
yeah, it is beautiful and it for yourself.
What a wonderful quilt! You did a gorgeous job on it -- the blues make a very 'serene' quilt.
Lovely! Isn't Bonnie great? You finished faster than I did... i went to 3 workshops she did over 3 days in DE in April... None of them are done yet! However, her latest mystery, "Easy Street" is almost done. I have quilting ADHD.
Beautiful! Love Bonnie's quilts and hope to take a class from her someday. It looks like she was a great inspiration!
