how would you tell me to make them into a quilt? just like this? with sashing around each one? around a block of 4? with a carpenters star in the center and all these around it? i have 126 of these and hubby and son are pinning them to the wall as i type. input! i want the recipient to say oh WOW holy COW that is stinking AWESOME lady!
this awesome lady is stumped!

Your hubby and son know what they are doing. It's a wonderful, colorful quilt. Quilts don't have to be complex to be beautiful. This one is heading toward beautiful AND fun!

QuiltingByCourtney 12-09-2012 10:23 AM

I am not sure what the pattern is called but I would line the same colors up diagonally(like lines of dark blue, lines of light blue etc), then from there i would make it go from light colors to dark colors haha I am not very good at explaining things haha, but either way this quilt is going to look awesome!

Love them just as they are. Sashing would interupt the wonderful motion in the simple pattern.

I loooooove it!

EDIT: The randomness of what your guys are doing is great. The mixed lights and darks allow the eye to move over the quilt in a pleasent way.

EDIT: Here is a sample of something similar and it shows how some quilts just work when they are random.

Loooooove it all over again just the way it is developing!
peace

DogHouseMom 12-09-2012 10:44 AM

No to any kind of sashing ... I like the layout just the way it is. Not sure if I would mix it up scrappy like you have it, or attempt to organize the colors in some fashion. Is the recipient an organized, planner type or is she more of a free spirit??

mighty 12-09-2012 10:51 AM

Looks beautiful as is!!!!!!

PaperPrincess 12-09-2012 12:21 PM

I think you are all set. I'd just sew it up as it is.

QuiltnNan 12-09-2012 12:30 PM

i like it the way it is... no sashing

jerilee 12-09-2012 01:11 PM

Do you mean sashing or border? It looks just beautiful the way it is, but you could put a border around it in on of those colors..............

patsynel 12-09-2012 01:29 PM

I agree with everyone that it looks great just as it is, very colorful..

Teddybear Lady 12-09-2012 01:31 PM

I like it just the way it is! Be sure and let us see the final project.

Diane007 12-09-2012 01:32 PM

I agree no to sashing....
nice blocks

alikat110 12-09-2012 02:02 PM

I like no sashing....but how big do you want it and will sqshing help you accomplish this? How comfortable are you matching seams? What does the design say to the recipient? To many variables you have to consider.

Marilynsue 12-09-2012 03:16 PM

I like it as is.

terri bb 12-09-2012 03:58 PM

ahhhh thank you! now the wall is FULL of them! i thought of doing the colors light to dark but some of them i only have 6 blocks total and so since it was just scrappy that i was working with i thought i would leave it scrappy. i DO, however, have about 600 little triangle cut offs that are now HST's that i can square up and use them as a sawtooth border, even tho they are small. and then add a strip of the background and then a bright border to finish it all maybe. not sure yet, but will keep you posted. i LOVE that quilt you showed me, that is fabulous!

Jingle 12-09-2012 06:10 PM

I like the first one, good color arrangement.

Mom3 12-09-2012 07:46 PM

Homespun 12-10-2012 08:18 AM

Looks great just as it is.

alikigirl 12-10-2012 12:34 PM

How about sewing verticle columns, and then offsetting them by starting every other column with a half block. Here is a link to something similar.

Oh Wow!! Holy Cow!!! Is that one for me???? hehehehe?? I hope so!! It is so bright and cheerful! I say "NO SASHING!!"

twinkie 12-11-2012 05:40 AM

If you were able to find an awesome border fabric, that would make this an "AWESOME" quilt by an "AWESOME" lady.

ktmo815 12-11-2012 05:49 AM

I like it just like this - it says "FUN" to me

Love it this way tell the 'boys' keep pinning : )

MarthaT 12-11-2012 06:57 AM

I really like the randomness of the arrangement with the mix of colors. But I'm going to be a little different from the others that posted and throw out the possibility of very narrow black sashing, but not between every block. Maybe four blocks sewn together, set on point with black sashing (about 1 in. finished width) and colored cornerstones of some scraps of the fabrics used on the blocks. But there is nothing wrong with just sewing it together as you have it layed out.

Geri B 12-11-2012 07:28 AM

leave it alone.....as it is...it looks like a delicious box of crayons!!!!!!

MimiBug123 12-11-2012 08:00 AM

Love it just as it is! Sashing would take away the randomness of it!

nstitches4u 12-11-2012 10:24 AM

I like them the way they are.

MargeD 12-11-2012 11:36 AM

I would sew as is, no sashing and let the squares be random so your eye will "dance" across the quilt.

love 2 sew 12-11-2012 11:46 AM

I LOVE this tut, thank you!

sewdamncute 12-11-2012 04:54 PM

That layout would allow you to do some really nice quilting!

caspharm 12-11-2012 08:16 PM

I agree. I like it the way it is. After they're finished pinning them up, take another photo and use as a guide to sew the blocks together.

Country1 12-11-2012 08:23 PM

I like it alot and I agree, DH & DS seem to be comfortable with their task at hand. Some how I feel like this isn't their 1st trip to the rodeo. LOL Or in this case to the wall. (looks like you've trained'em WELL! LOL
Looks great! Have a Merry Christmas and God Bless you all,
Penny
