The Ladies here have inspired me so much. I have a UFP I dug out and I am going to finish. My Hubby found this pattern at a garage sale for 10 cents and thought of me. (love him) I have done small applique pieces before, but this is by far the biggest. Was going great till the REALLY BIG trees!!! With everyone here finishing their UFP's and posting, I WILL finish mine. Here's a pic. I need ideas how to quilt it. I have never done any FMQ. I want to try with this.

I would outline some of the objects a few times and do a meandering stitch the rest.??

Ditter43 01-06-2011 10:23 AM

That is so cute! Looks like you met the challenge......great job.
I think the quilting should add the needed texture to your picture. Have fun with it! :D

That’s lovely!
The first thing that came to mind was to outline the bears, trees, grass, water, fish.
Then under the green grass I might try to follow the bottom outline of the bottom of the grass most of the way to the bottom of the piece except stop at the border.
In the area between the trees I might quilt some simple freehand birds.
The borders might just be a meander.
I don’t know what the white thing is at the bottom.

I don't have the ability to do this but I'm sure you do!
:-D

I really like your quilt. Not very good at FMQ. (I am just learning myself) What is the pattern called?

quiltlonger 01-06-2011 10:51 AM

It 'bears' repeating its cute just even quilting so hangs nice (from experience) What size is it?

franie 01-06-2011 10:56 AM

Thanks for the ideas! The white thing on bottom is a white flower. I like the idea of the birds, I think I will practice that before I quilt. :D

It's 36"x29". I'm not sure where to put it, I have run out of wall space!!!

Very pretty - would love the pattern - if you have the name. may I have it? I live in the woods in NW MT & our furniture has bears, moose, ducks in a pond, etc on it - this would match well.

craftybear 01-06-2011 12:11 PM

Love this! I would pretend that I could see what's in the background--trees, clouds, birds, other animals--then quilt that in the background. For the foreground, I would add some texture that would enhance the object--fur on the bears, branches in the trees, water and fish in the stream, etc. Then, when people see the wallhanging from a distance, they'll see the big picture. But, when they move closer, they'll see the details and those elements that are present in the picture but not apparent from a distance. In other words, I'd have fun!

thequilterslink 01-06-2011 03:43 PM

that is really cute!

That is a great quilt. I can't wait to see how you quilt it.

mimee4 01-07-2011 07:38 AM

That is beautiful - and to get the pattern for a thin dime!! Sounds like your hubby wants a wall hanging.

QweenBee 01-07-2011 07:55 AM

Grrr, fabulous! The bears are soming out to get my food@ LOL BEE PROUD!

stitchofclass2 01-07-2011 07:56 AM

I agree with this answer. The meandering will make the applique stand out! It will be beautiful.

Bluebonnet Sue 01-07-2011 08:17 AM

That is really lovely & the quilting should be special as well. Love the idea of outlining each of the bigger applique pieces a few times & them meandering tightly the areas in between. Sure want to see it when it is finished.

rosemaynes 01-07-2011 08:40 AM

This is great.
