so ugly that I may not finish it

it is baby quilt size now and so ugly I am not sure I should waste batting and backing fabric to finish it.

rmccormick 02-24-2013 07:04 AM

don't think it is ugly at all! I like how colorful it is.

oma66 02-24-2013 07:07 AM

Surely, you jest...it certainly is not ugly. It is so homey and comfortable looking that I would want to snuggle beneathe the wonderful colors. Why do you think it is ugly? Anyone would love to have this lovely quilt. Please finish it and give it to someone if you still do not like it because I know someone would LOVE it.

carslo 02-24-2013 07:09 AM

I would finish it, sometimes what we see in our mind doesn't always look the same when actually done. USe a sheet or tablecloth for the backing and throw in a poly batting, Practice that FMQ design you have been afraid to try and donate it to the local women's shelter, hospics center, dog sheter (you get my drift) and try something else. If you do not want to finish it sent it to me and I will finish and donate to my guild - our last donations were to a transition home for men who had returned to society after extended stays in the prison system.

Good luck!

tlrnhi 02-24-2013 07:14 AM

I don't see anything wrong with it. If you don't want to give it to someone that it's intended for, then finish it off and keep it for yourself. It'd be nice just to cover with on chilly days.

lauriejo 02-24-2013 07:15 AM

I am so disappointed. LOL I clicked on this thread expecting to see an ugly quilt, like a fascination for a train wreck ya know, and instead I find a wonderful, fun quilt full of beautiful rich color. It most definitely needs to be finished, but it doesn't need to be you if it won't make you happy to work on it. Maybe take a break from it and work on something else, or pass it along to someone else to finish.

gabeway 02-24-2013 07:25 AM

Looks fine. If you don't like it donate to child services for use with children removed from horrible situations.

Ditto this!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 02-24-2013 07:28 AM

It reminds me of my Grandma. Maybe you are too young for it? I'm sure there is a nice lady out there who would love it, but I know how hard it is to finish a quilt you don't like. Maybe there is a place that you can donate just the top to and they will finish it off. Guilds around here do that.

I agree, not ugly at all.

mighty 02-24-2013 07:30 AM

Are you just kidding us, it is not ugly at all!!!!

Thumbelina 02-24-2013 07:30 AM

Finish it. I don't find it ugly at all. Your fabrics are beautiful and I love your pattern. Good luck, hope we get to see a finished picture.

Tweety2911 02-24-2013 07:40 AM

I don't see ugly at all!! It's beautiful and once you finish it you will love it also. I recently made a ugly scrappy and hated the blocks so much. Once I finished the quilt it became my favorite!

Bookish One 02-24-2013 07:48 AM

To quote an old adage: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," and this beholder sees beauty in your quilt.

tutt 02-24-2013 08:19 AM

I love it! Perfect for a baby to sit and play on or for a picnic, not to mention cuddling under!

Ditto, I couldn't have said it better. It's a I am home quilt.

patsynel 02-24-2013 08:28 AM

There is nothing ugly about this quilt, please finish it. I feel certain it will make someone very happy and make them feel special. I love the colors...

Sapphire_Rae 02-24-2013 08:34 AM

Where is the ugly quilt?? Don't see one in that picture! That would look great here in our log house, want my address? Please finish it before you send it.

I kind of understand how you feel, sometimes fabric combos just don't grab onto us the way we think they will once we get going. Finish it up, let some time pass and you'll probably come to like it.

QuiltnNan 02-24-2013 08:47 AM

this quilt reminds me so much of the scrappy quilts on my bed at my aunt's house... i just LOVED finding the different fabrics and following the 'roads' in all the directions. i don't consider it ugly at all.

gigi712 02-24-2013 08:50 AM

That quilt is beautiful! It has all my favorite colors, too. What's not to like?

Justquilting 02-24-2013 08:50 AM

I don't think it's ugly.....if you don't like it for yourself....finish it & donate it or give it someone who does.

QUILTNMO 02-24-2013 09:11 AM

its not ugly finish and donate to charity

Dragonomine 02-24-2013 09:13 AM

It's lovely!! I would be thrilled to have it!

Ditto!!!!!

Berkie 02-24-2013 09:18 AM

I'd finish it & hang onto it for someone looking for those beautiful dark rich colors, or as others have suggested...donate it! I personally find it gorgeous!

wolph33 02-24-2013 09:21 AM

you all are to kind.I guess it just looks to dark and muttled for me.I like most of the fabric but should have used more lights in it.it really does not thrill me to look at it.it was way better in my head.

Sierra 02-24-2013 09:26 AM

My first "creative" quilt I made (after a class to learn how to quilt) was sooo ugly that I had a mixture of pride that I'd done it and shame when my daughters dropped over to visit (I think it was Thanksgiving). I have never had a quilt before or since where people almost came to polite blows because they wanted it "for their children"! It was a giant distorted butterfly on a cheap muslim backing and I used cut out bugs to anchor down the wads of fabric that had developed. You could have blown me over with a feather!

What you see and know about your quilt isn't what others see or think about it. Yours looks fine. Just don't giveit to the quilt police!

nygal 02-24-2013 09:30 AM

It's happened to me a few times. Especially in knitting. I will be working on it and at some point realize I dont' like how it is turning out or have lost interest in even finishing it. If it is a good yarn I will rewind it to use for another project at some other time. If the yarn is inexpensive and easy to come by I have been known to take it off the needles and throw it out!!' It was freeing to begin anew.

If you don't really like it than "put it away" and then you can rethink your fabric choices and start over. Follow your heart and do what you want to do. :)

craftygal63 02-24-2013 09:46 AM

It would make a great play quilt. Maybe not your typical baby quilt, but still attractive! :)

blueangel 02-24-2013 10:17 AM

Looks good to me...

Chasing Hawk 02-24-2013 10:21 AM

I love it, and I would cheerfully take it off your hands. :)

I could use the practice still on my meandering and strippling.

Judyth 02-24-2013 10:54 AM

Someone will love to cuddle up with this. Please finish it.

Material Witness 02-24-2013 11:04 AM

Ugly, too, is in the eye of the beholder. Keep searching the internet, and you'll find quilts so ugly you'll see how good this one looks!

nunnyJo 02-24-2013 11:07 AM

not that bad, I have a few of those hanging out

MamaDonna 02-24-2013 11:11 AM

Oh this beautiful not ugly at all. Finish it try something new with the quilting process then give to a children's home. They would love it...

nannyrick 02-24-2013 11:28 AM

WHAT UGLY??? I think it is great!!! You are being too hard on yourself.

dove 02-24-2013 11:28 AM

I don't think it is ugly either...you might change your mind once it is quilted...worse case scenario is that you donate it..it will still bring happiness and warmth to someone...:-)

Luv Quilts and Cats 02-24-2013 11:29 AM

I don't think it is ugly at all. Its' a nice scrappy quilt.

NewToSewing2013 02-24-2013 11:30 AM

Maybe we're not looking at the same quilt, cause this quilt is full of live and wonderful color. I think it is beautiful!

crafty pat 02-24-2013 11:38 AM

I think it is a very pretty quilt. I looks a lot like one my DMIL made for my oldest son and he loved his quilt.
