Some 5 Yard Quilts that have made and quilted with Minky backs

These are a couple of the 5 yard quilts that I have made and quilted these past couple of months. The Aqua one started out as a five yard quilted and I ended up tripling it.I really liked the colors and decided we would use if for our queen bed. I quilted it with a all over feather meander, the horse one I quilted with a Rodeo design, and the black and red one with swirly feather design, the pink one with Maggie's rose design.

A couple more of the 5 yard quilts, they are so much fun to make.....and quilt.....and love seeing how they change with a different fabric line. Also the Deer one was a panel that my son really like and he loves the color orange so tada it is his quilt. These all also have Minky on that back too.

I do love your work!

JAGSD 07-25-2014 05:03 PM

Heather all of them except the deer one here is the same pattern and is called a "5 yard quilt" it is free over the Internet just put in 5 yard quilt and you will come up with a few different ones. I actually have seen I think 6 different free 5 yard quilts. If you can't find it let me know.

The first quilt with horses is some I had gotten quite a few years ago in Edgemont, Sd at Nuts And Bolts Fabric Store. The second horse quilt was more recent it was a line out this year called Horse Pond, I had made these as samples for Quilt Connection. They are out of the fabric but may be able to do a Internet search and find it.

Thank you all for the very kind remarks.

I haven't read on to see if anyone has put the pattern on so forgive me if this is a repeat.

Thanks! I enjoyed seeing your quilts. Your quilting is amazing.

One question for you please... I made a quillow using minky for the backing. With a Quillow, you sew around the quilt sandwich and turn the quilt right sides out and slip stich the opening closed. I had a problem with the minky back stretching longer in length than the front , which was cotton.

What did I do wrong when quilting with the minky? I appreciate any tips you have learned while quilting with minky.

I have a longarm, but when I quilt with Minky as long as I put the stretchiest direction left and right on my rollers, so when I roll it they do not for the most part stretch. Don't get me wrong it does but "very little" if it does.BUT not the curling crazy stuff. The Minky works well with these quilts too because of size. There is no piecing of it. If you are quilting on a domestic machine when quilting you usually work from the center out if I remember right and I would think the "stretches" would be a problem. But with just going around the edges, maybe make sure the same stretch goes the same direction for both top and back and possible a stabilizer. To be honest outside of using a stabilizer I don't know how to change that outcome and would love to hear what anybody else has been successful with.
The only other thing I can think of is Pin Pin Pin Pin.

Thanks for the idea. I have some beautiful print fabric that I want to FINALLY make a quilt for myself and have been undecided about a pattern. This pattern is perfect. I will get to see the fabric and compliment with other colors. Thanks again.
