Some finishes and only-needs-the binding sewed pieces....

I'm pleased with all of these. First three are crib quilts, then two wall hangings. I'm taking on-line free motion quilting classes and love the quilting on #1 and 2; the photos wouldn't load. The last photo is what's on the design wall today. That gets sewed together next.. then onto a few wall hangings made from charm packs.

Dang, you've been busy (and very successful)

ManiacQuilter2 07-13-2016 12:20 PM

Yes, you have been busy. I like all the quilts because I am partial to bright colors since they make the quilt so cheerful! Did you get your problem resolved with your EQ drawing of your 2nd quilt??

Tartan 07-13-2016 12:33 PM

Great fun quilts and fabrics!

I'm on summer break! Between eye and dentist appts, and seeing my amazing grand girls several times a week...I'm squeezing in some quilting. :-)

Not yet. Another board member has the pattern to try it and see what she can figure out. I'll make another later on and try it again. There is no reason it shouldn't be fine--measurement wise, so it's something I'm doing...just don't know what. Every other piece I've made comes together nicely. At least that's a pattern that hides problems well. And it has my favorite free motion quilting yet. :-)

What gorgeous colours in all those scrumptious quilts.

Wow, I can't pick a favorite. I just inherited a tote of batik fat quarters and wondered what pattern to use with so many variations in the color palette. I love the bright colors with the black and white prints.

I would appreciate any pattern names or links to the patterns that you have used. Thank you for sharing and inspiring me to dig into my gift of batik fabrics. Happy Quilting!

Hi copycat! I love it when I inspire someone because it's just a tiny payback from all I have been inspired by others. The one with batiks and white is a design I created--and had trouble with lining up. The HST were just out of my head. They can be any size you wish. I played a lot to get blocks that worked--not too busy--ones where a pattern could be seen. It's easy to make things too crazy with black and white fabric. My plan is to always made too many blocks so I can play. ;-) The pattern on the design wall and matching quilt are from a magazine from long ago, but I made the pieces smaller--something I tend to do. lol The blocks before going into the quilt measure 5 by 7. The strips of color are 1.25" You can play around with sizes for what you'd like for the skinny and chubby centers to get them to match in size. On a quilt I made years ago with these blocks I did alternating rows of blacks and white. Every other was just too busy. But this time I sprinkled in black blocks and I love the effect. I tried to attach a photo of that one--but keep getting that error message.

I'd be happy to answer more questions... this was kind of vague, but all the color ideas came from my head.

SheriR 07-14-2016 05:47 AM

Very nice! Such bright, happy colors!! What a great way to practice new FM quilting ideas.

copycat 07-14-2016 06:35 AM

Thank you for your answer. I think the 5 x 7 blocks with strips of color being 1.25" will be the easiest pattern for me to play around with. Thanks for your help.

Okay--the center pieces are 3.5 by 7 for the skinny ones and 5 by 5.5 for the chubbies. Knowing which side works to add color to the skinnies is easy; the center strip for the chubbies needs to be cut at 5.5--then add the strips and cut apart at 5". Does that make sense? I had to remeasure everything before I made more and cut the chubby strip at 5" so had to add the color one by one. No biggie, but easier in strips.

Wonderful bunch of Happy Quilts !!

klswift 07-15-2016 07:36 AM

I love using black and white with the color accents. I think I am going to print out your #3 and stick it on my board as an inspiration quilt. I was not much of a modern quilt person until I made a shadow quilt (with rectangles) for a daughter. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked the look of it. It was very linear (she is that way!) and I hadn't thought of moving them up and down like your 5th picture. OH......this board gives me too, too, too many ideas for projects.......not enough hours in a day..........

rryder 07-15-2016 11:21 AM

Wow! I love the bright colors and the way the black and white fabrics make them pop. Good job on the FMQ.
