Some More Nesting Fabric Boxes

2 Attachment(s)
Just finished another set of nesting fabric boxes! :) I chose some pretty gold-accented autumn fabric for the outside, and Fairy Frost fabric with gold glitter for the inside. I FMQ'ed them in a meandering pattern this time, rather than concentric squares like before. As an experiment, I used felt inside instead of batting to see if it would make them a bit stiffer. It did. :)

Here are a couple of pics. The first one shows them nested inside each other, and the second one shows all three boxes separately. :)

sahansen44 10-11-2013 03:09 AM

I also made some out of Snoopy Halloween fabric with orange inside. I used Deco Bond on the outside fabric. Really makes them stand up "tall".... Will be making some for Christmas craft show

NUTMEG10 10-11-2013 04:13 AM

Beautiful, where can I get instructions for making the boxes?

gabeway 10-11-2013 04:15 AM

Becoming popular.

Tartan 10-11-2013 04:25 AM

It's at the bottom of my post, but here it is again. :)

Thanks for the comments, everyone! :) I'm currently working on one made with a vintage (repro) hankie as the interior, and the scalloped edges of the hankie form the triangles that fold over. So far it's turning out really pretty! :) I'll try to finish it this evening when I get up (I sleep days). 'Night, all! :)

What sizes did you make? My 11 year old granddaughter made one yesterday with me. The 10 inch and it was quite small but she loved it and now wants to make more boxes for christmas presents.

mighty 10-11-2013 06:13 AM

Love these. Your fabric choice is gorgeous.

MommaDorian 10-11-2013 02:42 PM

I'm going to make some for a Christmas craft show too. I made one with 10" squares, but I'm trying it with 12" and 14" squares. I can't wait to shop for some new fabric for them.

Grandma Peg 10-11-2013 03:34 PM

Very nice and really like your fabric.

twinkie 10-12-2013 04:24 AM

Those could make fantastic gifts for Christmas.

coopah 10-12-2013 04:33 AM

How cute are these? I can imagine a jar of jam or what have you nestled in one of these for a perfect gift. Thanks for sharing the pattern. Probably those might get done and not turn into another UFO. Really gotta get at the UFOs.

bibi 10-12-2013 05:06 AM

Love the fabric and boxes. I've made a couple using 10 & 12" squares, but love the tall one. How big is the square and what measurement for the corners? Thanks.

Mariposa 10-12-2013 06:13 AM

Very pretty! :)

sewnsewer2 10-12-2013 06:38 AM

I used the following measurements:

10" = 2" corners
12" = 2-1/2" corners
14" = 3" corners

mattie washington 10-12-2013 07:26 AM

Very nice I am going to make these they make a nice gift.

Z Any Mouse 10-12-2013 08:12 AM

Those came out really cute! I've been enjoying the ones I made to hold Halloween candy, but the candy keeps disappearing (kids!). I used batting along with some fusible interfacing to make them stiffer, but I might try your felt trick. I just came across some white felt gifted to me by my MIL and I had no idea what to use it for, especially since I'm done making soccer banners (yay!).

gramquilter2 10-12-2013 09:14 AM

your boxes are really well done-love the fall colors on these

BrendaK 10-12-2013 09:19 AM

Very Nice. BrendaK

cpcarolyn 10-12-2013 12:28 PM

Very nice.

newjeepgreen 10-12-2013 12:32 PM

I made some today and did a 15inch square (just because I had the ruler handy) and they turned out great. I kept my corners to 2 1/2 ins and brought the little corners outside instead of inside. Will fill them with some small thing for kids. Will post pics as soon as can get ipad charged.

Another lot of cute boxes. I took mine to quilt group yesterday for show and tell and I think that there will be a few more of these boxes popping up. Everyone thought it was so cute.

I thought I would try ironing on fabric stiffner to both sides instead of using batting and see how the sides go.

goldbeacher 10-12-2013 01:33 PM

Oh my, I gotta make some of these, I love seeing what everyone is doing!

Carol Ann 10-12-2013 01:39 PM

What size squares did you use for all three? I just finished my first one using a 12" square. Would like to make more but different sizes.

Cookie46 10-12-2013 03:29 PM

Loves your boxes!
