Yes thats what they look like in the raw state. I believe she soaks them and opens them out. I have seen some work she has finished with the last lot she had. Her husband has just come back from Thailand so that was her present.

Wow, silk! And silk cacoons! I'd really like to see what you do with those. I love the projects. It's so wonderful and interesting to see what others are doing, particularly from outside USA. It's nice to be connected in thread (and silk) :)
