I've learnt so much from this board and received so much inspiration and encouragement since I joined that I wanted to share this little success with you all - some of my quilts hanging in an exhibition in our local Art Centre http://www.themeetinghouse.org.uk/visual_arts/205.

I went to the Preview Party this afternoon and felt a little like an interloper amongst all the 'real' artists!

I must say though, I DID like the look of my stuff hanging there. :-D Mine are the pink and dark blue twisted cabin (Raspberry Ripple) the red and white 3D pinwheels (Moulins Rouges) and the Victorian Tumbling Blocks over the fireplace. Also the Toile de Jouy Warm Wishes draped over the unit in the centre of the room. They'll hang there until Christmas and with any luck, I may even sell something!

Aww thanks everyone. I felt a little bit responsible too - as if I was flying the flag for quilting as an art form. A big responsibility!

Quilting is getting more recognition as a true art form, whether it be traditional or modern patterns. This is the first year our local art center has "selected" any quilt item as a part of their art exhibit and sale. Keep on "flying the flag".

malega 11-28-2010 11:44 AM

That is so beautiful congrats.

Thanks everyone. Greensleeves, I took a few pieces in for the curator of the exhibition to chose from and wasn't surprised that she chose the PP piece and the red and white but was surprised AND pleased that she also picked the tumbling blocks, which is VERY traditional. :-D It's nice to give both kinds an outing as I love both myself. :-D

You work is lovely and well worth displaying. I enjoy every piece you post here, and it looks to me that it stands up just as well at a public showing. Thanks for the pictures!

Congratulations. Your work is beautiful and you are a "real" artist who is using a different medium than all those other artists. Don't let them intimidate you.

Linda1 11-28-2010 06:12 PM

Your work deserves to be there. They are beautiful.

twospoiledhuskies 11-28-2010 06:35 PM

k3n 11-29-2010 01:53 AM

Thanks so much everyone. It DOES feel good - just keep everything crossed that one day I post a pic of one with a red dot on the label!

Hilary, the lady responsible for the exhibition came here to chose a few options to take in. She did like the OBWs I've done, including the avatar one but she wanted smaller pieces for this exhibition. :-D

mimee4 11-29-2010 07:16 AM

How wonderful that your quilts are hung in a beautiful place like your art center. I think it looks relaxing and would be a joy to walk around and see your works of art. Congratulations and I DO hope you sell some.

Donna P 11-29-2010 07:44 AM

Murphy 11-29-2010 08:28 AM

OK!! But if I had been the organiser I would have made a larger space available!!!!! All your work is beautiful but those OBW s are just fabulous and so different!! I think they would create a real talking point!!!! IMHO!!!!!!

Thanks Hilary! In fact I'm booked to do an exhibition of ONLY my work there (but next October so a while away!) There'll definitely be OBWs in THAT one! :-D

Shemjo 11-29-2010 01:08 PM
