Here's a picture of my first quilt, made in 2006. This one is mine. Although my 5 year old granddaughter says it's hers when she's here!

This one I made for my daughter. I finished it on January 3 of this year, it "only" took me 2 years and 1 month to make it!!! LOL!!! It's made of polar fleece, the top side just the black and white squares in checkerboard fashion, with contrasting yarn as decorative "quilting" stitched. The back is all black polar fleece, and I tied it. She absolutely loves it, as do her fiance and kids!!!

Here are blocks 4 and 5. I haven't photographed block 6 yet. This one is going to take probably another year and a half to make!

For first time needle turn applique, it looks like you have mastered the technique. Good for you!
I really like that card trick quilt.

Here is the double Irish chain that I'm currently working on for my 5 year old granddaughter. She helped a little on Sunday! I'm using the gridded fusible, which I absolutely love!!! And this one will be my first attempt at quilt-as-you-go.

The first one I cross-stitched for my 3 year old granddaughter, and the last two are doll quilts that I made for my granddaughters, all for Christmas.

Great quilts and techniques. I like that you are including your granddaughter... like in the olden days!

Ethel A 05-27-2009 11:43 PM

Wow! You have some incredible projects!! I love that your grand-daughter has helped you out. That must be so neat!

k3n 05-28-2009 12:46 AM

Beautiful work! I love your appliqué especially. I must try and get my 4 1/2 year old sewing. She's just getting interested - the other day she said 'when you die Mummy, can I have all your sewing stuff?' Charming!

Wow those are all very nice.

Boston1954 05-28-2009 04:01 AM

Marvelous! You applique beautifully. Can't wait to see that one finished. Should I give you my address now? :-)

KittyGram 05-28-2009 05:14 AM

Thank you so much for all the kind words!!! Regarding my granddaughter, it was actually a little frustrating for me, but I've since decided I need to just accept that when she helps me, we're not going to get very much actual work done!!!! It's so good for her (and me too) to do this together. This time is all about her, not me, so we WILL work on it together again!

Next time she's working on it, I will try to remember to get a picture!

That's cute!!!

I got my granddaughters little stitching kits for Christmas. For the 5 year old, I got a simple "cross stitch" - it wasn't really cross stitch, because the stitches only went one way, but it gives her some practice with stitches and the color placement as well (it was a very colorful butterfly). For the 3 year old, I got a packet of little bear figures that have holes around the outside, and she just stitches along those holes with a plastic needle.

The 5 year old has always been interested in crafts. Ever since she was a tiny baby, I've showed her what I've made, and from the time that she could acknowledge them, she's been very interested in them. Her mom crochets and paints and draws, so she's surrounded by crafts.

Wow!!! Beautiful.

Mossie 05-28-2009 05:58 AM

These applique blocks are just incredible!! Where can we find the pattern and did you choose the fabrics yourself? They are so beautiful together.

sewjoyce 05-28-2009 06:01 AM

I joined an "applique club" at my LQS, but if you do a google search for "Laundry Basket Quilts", then look up "Applique Affair", you should find it!!! Mine came w/ just the pattern, and then the LQS kitted the fabrics, so I bought the kit as well.

Nice work! Looks like you've been having fun!

Angie 05-28-2009 06:37 AM

I love your work, style, and variety. :)

My four year old grandson LOVES helping me quilt. His favorite part is to sit on my lap and use the sewing maching. I run it at it's slowest speed and put my hands close to his, NEVER over or he says, "I can do it Nana". He also enjoys looking at quilting books and magazines with me and lets me know what his favorites are, he talks about the shapes and colors and what he thinks would look better. FUNNY, but my son is also much more interested in the quilting process than my daughter or nieces. When I made a wall hanging for my DSIL my daughter just didn't like all the colors and prints in it, when my son saw it he said he loved it, ESPECIALLY all of the colors and prints. Needless to say that I have several ideas for quilts for my grandson and son, my daughter also, but hers are a little harder, so I did join the B/W block swap and she is very excited about it because that is going to be hers when it's done and she is loving the blocks that she has seen!

I LOVE swaps! I've just recently started doing some in two other online quilting groups that I'm in, and will, I'm sure, start participating here soon too! Just too much fun to pass up!!

Roben 05-28-2009 07:04 AM

Very nice projects, KittyGram! You give me hope that I can be brave enough to do an applique quilt one day :D

Beautiful! that's all just Beautiful! :)

You do some AWESOME work!! All of it is fantastic, but WOW your applique is absolutely beautiful! I think it sooo great that you and your daughter are surrounding the little one with crafts, and artsmanship. It's so wonderful when you start them at a very young age to appreciate the beauty of a craft (or crafts in this case) and the joy of doing it instead of just admiring or buying it. You're instilling a lot in that little one...keep up the wonderful work with her!!!

himom122 05-31-2009 03:13 PM

Very nice!!!!!!! You do great work!!!!!!!!!!

Marcia 05-31-2009 03:58 PM

All your projects are great. Your applique is fantastic-no one would ever know it is your first needle turn project.

KittyGram 05-31-2009 05:00 PM

Thank you, everyone!!! Today I had my 3 year old granddaughter helping me with HER quilt - it has 4" squares (cut size) that are various pinks and greens - some stripes, polka dots, roses, etc. - just a colorful, floral patchwork, which along the top will have a white strip of fabric (not sure how big yet), and will have yo-yo flowers in that area. So, she picked out the placement of each square for the first 2 rows (with some guidance, since I kind of wanted dark, light, dark....), and as I sewed them together, she was playing in my craft room, which has a toybox in it for them, she was talking to her dolls about "her sewing machine", "her iron", "her quilt that she's making"... I can just see the two of them now, playing together in their bedroom at home....!!!! It might be the new rage!!
