My daughter just showed me how to post some of my pictures. The next 4 are all "Home of the Brave" quilts that I made in honor of fellow service members in my daughters Army Reserve unit that were Killed in Afghanistan while they were there in August 06

There are two 12 inch patches on the back of each of the quilts signed by members of their unit while still in Afghanistan

A couple more quilts. I have been cranking out quilts for all my family members and lots of my children's friends who have all been getting married lately. Bits and Pieces is a favorite pattern because it is quick and easy and uses 12-20 fat quarters depending on how large it needs to be. I enjoy using lots of different fabrics in my quilts

I know I have seen it but I can not seem to find it. Does any out there have or know where I can find the pattern for bits and pieces?

SaraSewing 07-02-2008 01:02 AM

Great job. A real feast for the eyes with so many beauties!

Quilt4u 07-02-2008 01:47 AM

You have been busy. Love them all.

reneebobby 07-02-2008 03:03 AM

Okay I just can't decide which one I like the most so I'll give a two thumbs up for them all. Thanks for your families support in the war against terriorism, and giving those families beautiful quilts. They are all just lovely.

Roben 07-02-2008 03:59 AM

Spectacular, all of them!

DJ 07-02-2008 04:18 AM

You have quite a wonderful sense of color, and your quilts are fabulous.

I have donated blocks to Home of the Brave in honor of my father (WWII vet). Your HOB quilts are very touching!

Where can I find the "Bits and Pieces" pattern?

beachlady 07-02-2008 05:03 AM

Those are all so beautiful. You must quilt 24/7.

Knot Sew 07-02-2008 05:52 AM

Those are some beautiful quilts, with some happy looking recipient's. Great work

Cordelia 07-02-2008 06:03 AM

I just love your quilts! I love the one for your daughter, Megan. What a lucky girl!

My mom has made me a quilt too. I should take a picture of it ...

I think I will.

I like the one you made with the stars and planets fat quarters too.

Feathers 07-02-2008 06:16 AM

Your quilts are so very nice. Thank you so much for sharing them with us. I think I like your purple one best and the Red White and Blue one with your nephew and Cynthia. Gorgeous!

I, too, would like to thank you and your daughter for your care and work with HOB and DD for her service to our country. We enjoy so many freedoms here in America and we get to enjoy them because of people like your daughter and her deceased friends who have put their lives on the line so we are safe. Thank you. We pray for our soldiers every day!

Bevanger 07-02-2008 06:36 AM

WOW! They are all gorgeous. Is the bits & pieces quilt from Eleanor Burns pattern? I thought of getting it.

Jim's Gem 07-02-2008 11:52 AM

Bits and Pieces is published by Mountainpeek Creations I don't see a website buy there is an 800 # on the pattern 1-888-768-5922
Hope this helps

Jim's Gem 07-02-2008 12:01 PM

Thank you all for your wonder comments. No, I don't quilt 24/7 but I have been able to get about 10-15 done a year. The Twice as nice took me about a month to put together, working on it evenings after work. I don't watch TV at all and my kids are not young any more (youngest is now 19 1/2 and in Navy) Currently I have 8 quilts that are sandwiched and waiting to be quilted laying on my son's bed. I recently had shoulder surgery and havn't been able to do any sewing for almost 11 weeks. I did get to spend a little time Sunday at the machine, but I only last about 10 min before I start hurting. The quilts upstairs will have to wait a while longer until I am able to finish them.

Jim's Gem 07-02-2008 12:02 PM

Oops, make that "wonderful" comments and encouraging words.

mgshaw 07-02-2008 02:28 PM

I LOVE the Twice as Nice!!!! Gorgeous!! They are all pretty but I Love that one

Jim's Gem 07-02-2008 02:30 PM

Thanks, I think it is one of my favorites. My daughter picked out the colors, I, of course, made the final choices on the fabrics. I plan on making that one again with maybe some more purple's. I think I have about 26 different fabrics in that one.

quilter1962 07-02-2008 02:43 PM

They are all beautiful, oh if I had to choose my favourite um it would have to be, all of them
Hope to be as talented as you one day :D

I would also like to thank you for your continued support to all the Soldiers, Sailors & Airmen & their families who put their lives on the line everyday for us all here at home. DH served for 30yrs in The Royal Air Force so for me what you are doing is very close to my heart.

Tisha, UK.

CindyBee 07-02-2008 03:33 PM

All I can say is WOW! My faves are the Twice As Nice and the "Rocket Scientist" Bits And Pieces. I have a BIL who is a Rocket Scientist (retired from NASA). But they are ALL spectacular. I love your sense of color.

Such marvelous work! And to have suffered that loss too. What great therapy!
Isn't that Bits 'n Pieces pattern from Bloom Creek? I used their Strips 'n Bits with a jelly roll and charms. It is a wonderful pattern.

Keep posting your pics, they are great! Hope to talk with you in the chat room.

sewnsewer2 07-02-2008 06:20 PM

All your work is spectacular!

Where did you find the "promises" pattern?

Marcia 07-02-2008 06:30 PM

Gem-I loved all of your quilts. You do beautiful work, great colors. I was especially touched by the quilts that you made for the military families. Your kindness was appreciated, I can assure you.

Jim's Gem 07-02-2008 06:49 PM

The promises pattern is from Pressed for Time Quiltworks by Mary Hubka.
She makes her patterns for 8 "sweet treats" or fat quarters. I doubled the size cause I like to make my quilts a little bigger, for 2 to snuggle under. You can google Pincushion Boutique and look at their website and it will list all of her patterns. I am making a very similar one for my son in a queensize from a different pattern. I can't find my book at the moment. I'll look and give you the name of that one as well.

Jim's Gem 07-02-2008 06:56 PM

The name of the one similar to Promises is from the book "Open a can of Worms" by Debbie Caffrey, the quilt is called "Four Patches & Friends" you can see the contents of the book at debbiescreativemoments.com.

Harmony 07-02-2008 08:17 PM

I love them all, but I'm REALLY crazy about the Twice as Nice one you made for your daughter. You are one prolific quilter!!!!

quilterpat 07-03-2008 09:10 AM

cabinfever 05-21-2011 10:47 PM

I especially like the Wedding gift for David and Carolyn pattern is called "Promises". It is amazing all that you have done for so many people!
I really appreciate what you have given to those who serve/ have served our country. I love that you have had the unit sign the quilts. I have 4 nephews and a niece in all branches of the service overseas; one is home after a serious injury in Afghanistan. I pray they all come home...mine, yours, each & every one of them. Thank you for your kind thoughtfulness.

vintagemotif 05-21-2011 11:13 PM

Your quilts are wonderful. I haven't made a Home of the Brave quilt yet, but work with Don Beld with his potholder blocks for the fallen. Do you make those too?
