Beautiful. I know a lady that made one just like yours for our church picnic raffle.

Beautiful!

I still have the old magazines that would come in the mail.I was thinking of giving them to Goodwill but now maybe not.

catladyquilts 07-29-2011 05:16 AM

wonderful job

grannypat7925 07-29-2011 05:18 AM

Sure brings back memories. I made lots of pineapple doilies when they were popular. Loved to crochet!

janiesews 07-29-2011 05:51 AM

Beautiful-you need a small round table with a dark color cloth and then put this on top. I think you can find them not too expensive made out of particle board. Have seen some as a bedside or chair side table with small lamp sometimes. It is too pretty to go back into the closet.

GramaLaura 07-29-2011 06:21 AM

So beautiful!! Don't put it in the closet! My grandmother would put it on the bed with a pretty sheet underneath. It's too pretty to hide. I have tried to master this pattern for years.....no luck :-D

Jo Mama 07-29-2011 06:42 AM

That's beautiful. I have a collection of 5" to 7" doilies and I'm going to applique them to floral fabric blocks, then add sashing (probably black), a couple of contrasting borders and make a quilt!

dphelps 07-29-2011 06:52 AM

Would you be interested in selling this? My mom has a beautiful round table.

Nolee 07-29-2011 07:01 AM

I teach crochet and believe me, I know how many hours went into that. It is just beautiful. You did a wonderful job with all that chaining. Very beautiful :) :)

Riverton Quilter 07-29-2011 07:19 AM

This is beautiful. Have you thought of framing it? Several of my friends have framed doilies and made a wall grouping. They were stunning. Yours may be too big.

Tweety2911 07-29-2011 07:35 AM

Beautiful!! That was my mom's favorite pattern.

PolkaBabe 07-29-2011 07:40 AM

Connie, thank you for sharing. My mother made many doilies, table cloths laces. We did have a round table that we could add multi sleeves to seat many around. It is still in the family. Again Thank You.

Gramma B 07-29-2011 07:43 AM

OMG, very pretty! Awesome work!

barking-rabbit 07-29-2011 07:43 AM

Size 7 is my favorite size hook. I like the patterns that are graphs to follow.
If following a written pattern it helps to have someone read the pattern to you. That is how I learned the terms, reading them to my mother.
$1 an inch and you still don't get paid for your time.

Linda1 07-29-2011 08:06 AM

None of my family has ever crocheted but my grandmother who passed away in 1970 had crocheted doilies all over her house. They had to be starched so stiff. I have them all now and to me they are priceless. I don't know who made them for her. I crochet very little because for some reason I can't stay with it long enough to finish anything but I do admire everyone else's work. Your tablecloth is beautiful.

annap 07-29-2011 08:10 AM

I thought I was the only one who crocheted doilies anymore. Have you tried fillet crocheting names. I have a wonder software program by Sandi Castle that lets you design doilies and names from all the computer fonts. I have a name going all the time. Makes wonder gifts. After a while ya run out of places to put doilies.
Love your doily.

Meme2six 07-29-2011 08:13 AM

My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was twelve. I've made doilies but have them put away right now. I don't have any idea how many afghans I've made. Since my fingers are stiffer than when I was younger, I find yarn much easier to work with than the thread these days.

Sarah CA 07-29-2011 08:32 AM

Connie, your dolly is just beautiful. What an art form!!!

Rusty's Mama 07-29-2011 08:35 AM

Beautiful. I love crocheted table cloths and doilies.

greaterexp 07-29-2011 09:28 AM

I love thread crochet, too! This is gorgeous!

kacy 49 07-29-2011 09:33 AM

I think you should find a tablecloth that fits the table, center the round cloth over that, and stitch it down.

Tippy 07-29-2011 09:39 AM

Gee Connie.. wish you were closer.. I have a round table I'm going to get rid of.
That is a lovely tablecloth. You do fantastic work.

sewphie 07-29-2011 11:01 AM

Beautiful work, the pineapple is my all time favorite pattern to make! :D

ButtermilkMama 07-29-2011 11:35 AM

Doilys are the same as quilts and afghans-- noone realizes the cost of the yarn, crochet cotton or THE TIME!!!!!

lollygagging 07-29-2011 11:40 AM

I have ALWAYS loved crochet work. I've never been able to conquer it and marvel at its beauty. You have a wonderful treasure worth displaying. Buy a table or have it mounted for a wall piece.

lalaland 07-29-2011 11:58 AM

Not a good picture?? That is absolutely gorgeous!!

phylby 07-29-2011 12:05 PM

suzee 07-29-2011 12:14 PM

Beautiful! I too crochet. I made a tablecloth for my DD that took me 9 1/2 years. I posted it here somewhere. I will have to see if I can find it.

Okay, I found it. I will add a, "Can you top this" to it. I will never do another one this big, will stick to small doilies, which I love to do.

gigi4419 07-29-2011 01:26 PM

Very pretty!

luce321 07-29-2011 02:47 PM

granof6, that is a work of art, how long did it take to make? I too crochet, but I would not attempt to make something like that. Just beautiful.

luce321 07-29-2011 02:49 PM

Connie, that is awesome. Please don't put it away, it is too beautiful not to be displayed.

It took me 9 1/2 years. My husband was diagnosed with cancer during that time, so I did a lot of crocheting in the hospital during his treatments and doctor waiting rooms. Then after he passed away I had a hard time working on it for about 4 years. Then one year I promised myself I would finish it for the Thanksgiving dinner table. I finished it just a few days before Thanksgiving, took it to my daughter's house and put it on the dining room table without telling her. I wondered how long it would take her to find it. The next day she called me from Joann Fabric asking what kind of plastic she should get to cover it up. I don't think it has beenoff the table since then. The 2 grandsons say they will interview possible brides dependent on how they feel about the lace tablecloth, as it will be in the family for generations.

moonwolf47 07-29-2011 04:27 PM

Beautiful pineapple doily! I used to crochet.

Quilted Horse 07-29-2011 07:04 PM

You may not be able to put a square peg into a round hole but I'm pretty sure you could put a round table cloth onto a square (or rectangular) table. Tha is too pretty to be in a closet.

Beffy_Boo 07-29-2011 10:19 PM

Instead of putting it in the closet maybe you should consider starching it heavily, matting, framing and putting it on a wall. It is so beautiful.
