Well, more or less done. I could still quilt it; right now it's just top-stitched real close to the edge. Pattern suggests you quilt it w/ stitch in the ditch or free-motion. I've done neither (yet) as it is going w/ me to guild tonight!

First, pics of top finished, showing "stepped" edges, then finished product. Pattern calls for layering, sewing edge & flipping right side out. I'm not a huge fan of that look, and went back and forth with whether I wanted to bind it or not... But with the two sides being such different color, couldn't decide what I'd bind it in - a brown? Rusty red? Or just flip? So I just flipped it & top stitched.

I do love this pattern, it's really quite easy. If you saw my last project, you'll understand why I so appreciated having nothing to match up. Sew strips, cut wedges (the hardest part, really), sew together. Voila!

So pretty, and I love those rich reds and browns together.

Love it. I've made several now, and I agree, it's such an easy pattern, once you do the first one. I really like how there is contrast between your colors. It makes the spiral effect so vivid.... Very nice

    I agree, the Bow tucks were very popular and now this is getting ot be popular also. I posted mine when I first joined this board. I got a lot of private messages about the pattern and ruler... Sooo you'll need the pattern and the 9 degree ruler and 8 fat quarters ranging from darks to lights or you can use regular fabrics. Just make sure your stradas sets are 22" long. I bought mine from www.callalilyquiltshops.biz you can get the pattern and ruler there. Huggies, Fay

Wow I am breathless. Love it

hobo2000 10-04-2010 06:26 PM

Make sure you get the long ruler not the 14" they sent me by mistake. My pattern never stated what size ruler just 9 degrees. It has the be 21-22" inches long because your first cut is 21.5. Now I am trying to add on to the 14" to make it work because they won't take it back. Fun Fun Fun..

hcarpanini 10-04-2010 06:40 PM

Awesome!

Sorry I should have mentioned that. Yes it needs to be looonnnggg one not 14" long. I tihnk the 9 degree ruler is 25" long and wide at one end and narrow at the other end like a huge dresden plate ruler. good luck every one. Huggies, Fay

This happened at the LQS where I took the class, too. Several of us ended up keeping it as well as ordering the correct on. Using the long one at the end, when you are cutting a piece that is only 1" long is a challenge! So now we have both...

Very nice - love your fabric choices!

Dkm 10-05-2010 10:57 AM

I love this and have wanted to do it for sometime. I hated having to purchase a ruler. Something I don't think I would use very much.

peaceandjoy 10-06-2010 11:14 AM

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.

Lots of tools end up being a little helpful, but easily done without. If you are interested in doing the Spicy Spiral, the 9 degree wedge is indispensable. Marilyn Doheny has more patterns that use it.

anicra 10-06-2010 02:48 PM

Very nicely done! Beautiful colors.
