I made this Stack-n-Whack butterfly wall hanging for my MIL. I don't know why but she took it and had it framed. It was put on a purple background that doesn't match any of the colors in the wall hanging but after it left my hands, I have no rights to it!!! It was my first attempt and stack-n-whack. I love the finished result but it sure is a lot of work and concentration to get to that point!!!!

I love your butterflies. Great job. I'm sure she framed it because she really liked it too.

I would have thought that they were paper pieced. Where did you get the pattern for the stack and whack butterflies?

Very nice work. I really like the purple matting in the frame too.

Thank you! How nice of you to find that book. I'll have to check it out. I have a friend that just loves butterflies and I like to frame some of my work like you did. Thanks again!

earthwalker 06-13-2011 04:52 PM

Well, you don't get something framed unless it's precious. This is a beautiful piece, brilliant fabric choices and the butterfly design is exquisite.

Have you ever done Stack-n-Whack? I had taken one class and actually forgot how to do it but this book was easy to understand and I figured out the cutting lickety split!!!

auntpiggylpn 06-13-2011 04:54 PM

Thanks everybody for all your kind words!!!

maine ladybug 06-13-2011 04:56 PM

Yes, I took a class many years ago and have made several stack and whack quilts. I love the look you get with them.
I just looked and I actually have that book and found the butterflies. Thank you.

It's beautiful and your MIL had to love it to have had it framed and put on display.

She must have; it cost 10 times more to frame it than to make it!!!!

I'm going to have to try a Stack and Whack. Are they hard to do? I love your wall hanging.

I took a 2 hour class that was so unorganzied that I got nothing out of it. I brought my stuff home and forgot about it for almost a year. I pulled the book out and was able to jump right back into it without too much hair pulling and crying! There are so many more projects out there; they are just beautiful when finished. This is from the book Stack-n-Whackier and they are template cut.

k3n 06-14-2011 12:21 AM

Beautiful. I love the mirror effect from flipping the fabric - especially on the one top right. :-D
