Notice the side pieces that are added to each block. the same color goes on each block not one of each color on the block. then the blocks are alternated making sure that one accent color is going in the same direction for the whole quilt. ie: blue accent blocks are horizontal and pink accent blocks are vertical. Hope this helps.

Schnookie 06-04-2010 10:58 AM

Honchey, do you have a piece of the inspiration fabric...so we can see what it looked like before you made your cuts? I always think that is so neat to see what it started out as and ended up as. I also understand that you have a good stack n whack when you have big patterns with varying color in it to start...with is this so?

Honchey 06-04-2010 02:14 PM

Hi. I have to look for the piece I had left over. I will take a photo tonite and send. Anne

sandpat 06-05-2010 05:08 AM

I still love it! I have some fab already pinned together from where I did a OBW...I think I'll try cutting it in strips!

Hi, I am working on quilting this one. I love to cut and piece the tops. I'm not too fond of quilting them as I really don't do it well.

Wow, I'm new to this forum (2 days) and if I don't stop reading stuff, I won't get the next quilt started!! LOL, seriously, I lived in Edison, NJ during high school (went to Highland Park HS). I've lived in GA since 1971. Unlike you, I've never regretted leaving NJ. My future daughter in law lives in Asheville, NC. She is receiving this 4 Patch Posie stack n wack next week for her birthday...shhh, she has no idea she is getting a quilt! Bought the fabric at MaryJo's Cloth shop!!

Way cool. Never seen one like this before. I have a piece to do Stack & Whack with. I think this will be it. Have done the hexagons, fans and 8 pointed stars so far.

iltoaz 06-07-2010 04:49 PM

Let me tell you, this is really not scarry at all! In fact, it was one of the most fun to do of all 40 something I have made!! Really, it is so fun rotating each one of the four duplicate squares within one block..each rotation makes a different design. So there are four possibilities for each block. Then there's another chance for design decision as you layout all the blocks into rows. I am very serious when I say, it is NOT difficult. Go to HDDesigns.net and order the pattern. The directions are wonderful....very clear, very detailed, very easy to follow. The most important thing is to pick a focus fabric with a large repeat. This only had a 12" repeat and it came out great because of two different color poppies. I hand quilted it around each flowered square, but then machine quilted it around the main fabric in the border. Spent over a year, in between other quilts of course.

No, only one stack n whack...though this is definitely one of my favorites!! oh, I'm wrong! I did one more with the X ruler. You make a nine patch, then whack off corners with the X ruler. Really cool geometric look, with no work (but a lot of waste if you don't stitch the tiny triangles together that you whacked off! I did not!) My 15 yr old grandson loved it!

Gorgeous quilt. Another on my evergrowing to do list!!

Mariah 06-08-2010 05:24 PM

I am getting ready to do a Stack and Whack, so have some questions.
1. How far apart should the repeat be for the smaller flowers. I have in mind the larger flowers from an 8-12" repeat.
I love the small flowers, and would love to make it!
Mariah.

Schnookie 06-08-2010 08:12 PM

WOW X box is soooo cool! Love the colors

Rntraveler 10-04-2010 04:43 AM

Now, look here....where are these great patterns hiding... this is so neat...thanks for sharing..

newjeepgreen 11-02-2010 02:39 PM

Have never tackled a stack and whack, How does it go. Do you need special fabric prints for this quilt as it is gorgeous.

ArtisticDesign 11-11-2010 04:27 AM

I love that X block quilt... May I have a little more info?... Did the instuctions also come in the stack n whack book or a pattern? What's an x ruler? lol
Excellent job on both quilts, girl..

Vagabond 06-28-2013 06:48 AM

What a lovely choice of colors. I'm making one now and have a few questions if anyone could help. When choosing the trim piece for each block do you need to consider the colors in the block? Is there any criteria to follow for the trim or for the layout of the finished blocks?

blondeslave 06-28-2013 06:49 AM

Wow-neat quilt!

Vagabond 06-28-2013 06:53 AM

Beautiful choices of colors! I am making my first stack n whack and have a few questions. Do you follow any criteria (like color, etc.) when choosing what color trim piece to finish each block? How do you decide the placement of the blocks in the final layout? Thanks ahead!
I'm new and apologize if I've posted this twice.

craftynell 06-30-2013 12:02 PM

Very nice colors & nice pattern. Love it!!!

kacklebird 07-04-2013 02:59 AM

homecaregiver 07-04-2013 03:44 AM

I love the look of this but where do I get the pattern?
I would love to try it. BTW, You have done a terrific job on this and you chose the fabric well. Thanks for sharing.

Honchey 04-25-2015 03:35 PM

Wow, I had no idea that this thread was still moving along :)

When I decided on the fabric. it needs a 24" repeat in order to get enough blocks for variety...

The color of the side pieces are in the quilt itself somewhere.. it took me awhile to get it all coordinated...
Thanks so much for all the compliments.. Honchey

Honchey 04-25-2015 03:37 PM

The pattern is in a book by Bethany Reynolds...don't remember the name of the book. H.
