Stained Glass Crazy Top Done

3 Attachment(s)
My latest finished top, a stained glass crazy quilt. It is paper pieced and measures 65 x 75. I bought the block pattern online last year but don't remember where. The border I just drew myself on graph paper.
The last pic is a humbug bag I made for my DGD out of two leftover blocks.

Both are beautiful! That 'stained glass' positively glows!

Love your quilt and your bag!

I envy your stain glass. Beautiful.

Pretty quilt and humbug bag! I've always wondered why they named them "humbug" bags? Is it because you could store candy humbugs in them? So you remember the name? Or because you're having a bad grouchy Christmas? And why do I always wonder "why" about things?:D

Beautiful quilt! It's on my bucket list. I made Humbug bags for each of my grandkids instead of Christmas stockings one year. It is amazing how much stuff you can fill them with and they have a handy little bag to take home with them.

beautiful, very striking...I notice that every block is the same and you did not rotate them, which I think may be way it does not seem as busy as some scrap quilts. Nice job

Simply stunning - love the stained glass!

Jitterbug 01-16-2015 08:17 AM

Whoa...that quilt is beautiful. You did a lot of work, and it sure paid off. I really like the way you did the border, so perfect for the quilt. Any plans yet of how you are going to quilt it?

This Stained Glass is absolutely beautiful! And what a cute bag!

lildinks2013 01-16-2015 08:30 AM

Wowwwwww, absolutely stunning indeed! I have question if ya don't mind. The small black trim strips around each colored piece, is that sewn after the colored pieces are sewn together or is each colored piece of fabric sewn to the black strip individually? This quilt definitely shines like stained glass. Well done!

This is so gorgeous - I am hoping to make one of these one day.

The thin black strips are sew individually as you piece the block following the piping pattern.

jeanne49 01-16-2015 09:38 AM

Love that stained glass quilt . Bought the pattern for the humbug bag but have never made one. Thought they were really cute - my problem is I am scared of zippers, never put one in.

Grandma Bonnie 01-16-2015 09:57 AM

The Stained Glass quilt is absolutely beautiful!! I'd never heard of the Humbug Bag, but it is just too cute! Great job on both!

the fabrics in your stained glass really make it pop.

It is gorgeous.

...I ponder my stash...it never seems to yield the lovely colors I see on the board.

It appears to me like she flipped every other block upside down.

To the OP:
Did you paper piece that black part too, or is that somehow applied on top?

This is just stunning. You did a beautiful job. Lots of hard work is apparent in this quilt.

I did one of these once, but not pp....just cut the black strips and added as I pieced...tricky, but I love the final look....these can only be flipped because they are recs, mine were square so I could rotate....I may "dig" that pattern out and try another.....

nannya54 01-18-2015 06:12 AM

Really beautiful! What a fantastic job!
