Hi everybody! It seems like forever since I've posted pictures of what I am making other than Swish! and the second Swish!
Well, I got the binding finished this morning and now the first Swish! is completely finished! Yea!!! So, I have been thinking about what to work on next.

I decided yesterday to make a Northern Lights block and see if I like it. This is not the regular NL like I did before. This one is completely different. It is a 16" block, which I've never made any block that big before. I think I might at least make some NL blocks and see if I want to make a whole quilt out of them.

The pattern calls for two different blocks in it. One is the Northern Lights block and the other is a type of chain block. The colors in this first one are actually the colors called for. They only tell you the colors to use on one then you make them all different, except for the navy color, so it'll be up to me from now on.

This could be an interesting quilt....

1quilt_gma 05-22-2010 04:02 AM

Ooohhhh! I can see why it is called Northern Lights! That green is just spectacular! Can't wait to see what other colors you come up with.

With that chain block in there, that navy is going to shoot right across the quilt and make it sing!

Alright everybody! I got the second star done. I think this quilt is going to be so bright and cheerful....not to mention pretty! Here is the second block. The light colored squares are actually a pretty pink with red and light blue flowers. I can't get the pink to show up right.

WOW! I was going to say I love the colors in the first one but together just the two are really gorgeous! Can't wait to see what the whole quilt will look like!!

I really like this block alot. It is the sort of blocks I tend to favor.

Just curious what size squares/HSTs are you using to get the 16" quilt block?

Thank you, Rhonda! I think they are gorgeous too! I am using 2 1/2" squares and 3" for the HSTs. The center square is 4 1/2"
I think this one is going to be beautiful!

Hello! I did it! I finished the 4th star block so I can make a chain block and see what it looks like. I don't like the colors of some of the fabrics in these pictures. Some of them are just soooo much brighter in person. I took this next picture on the daylight setting and with the sun shining. They are closer to the real colors than some of the other pictures.

Anyways, here is the 4th block. Isn't it just beautiful???
I love it. It is so bright. I took a comparison picture this morning of the 4 blocks. One I took on Auto and one on daylight. The greens and oranges especially look more real in the daylight setting one.

I'm having a lot of problems sleeping and haven't been to bed yet, so I'm going to take a nap and then I'll try to get the chain block done, If nothing else comes up that I need to do. Hope you like the fourth star.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

This is the first 4 star blocks, taken with the camera set on Auto, so you can see the difference in the settings.
