While waiting for my D9P to come back from being quilted I decided to start on this. I don't have anything pieced yet, just cut. Do you like the background? or should I use different and should I change any of floral squares around? Not a very good picture. The floral fabric is really pretty.

virtualbernie 06-24-2010 10:39 AM

That's really really pretty! I think white or black would make the flowers pop! Your placement looks great to me.

Jim's Gem 06-24-2010 10:40 AM

That looks really pretty!!! I have a lot of Oriental fabrics I have not figured out how I want to use them cause you kinda need some big squares to show off the print. I like this idea!!

Are you saying use white or black background fabric?

Candace 06-24-2010 10:46 AM

Looks great as is. As a side note the politically correct term is "Asian" not Oriental. That word/term may offend some people. Just an FYI :>

Sorry, guess I'm not politically correct. I'll say my Asian fabric, sure don't want to offend anyone.

craftybear 06-24-2010 10:56 AM

very pretty fabric, thanks for sharing

Pam Pollock 06-24-2010 10:56 AM

I think it looks great just the way it is. Start sewing!!! :D

I was referring to the light colored fabric you have around the flower blocks. Just test it out, black may or may not work depending on how dark your flower blocks are. Sometimes when you're looking at a computer screen the colors are not as accurate as they are in real life.

Thanks, I'll take some black fabric and try it. Cute cat.

I like it! I've been trying to figure out what to make with some oriental fabric I bought at a store closing sale. I think I'll do this, too! Is there a particular pattern you used or just "invented"????? Oh, yeah...I like the light background, too.

BTW -- somewhere, someone suggested trying different layouts and taking digital pics of them to help with placement. I did that with my last big scrappy and found it REALLY helps. Also...I turned them into black and white photos to look for "values".....that might help you decide on the layout here.

Thanks, the pattern is Slide Show by Atkinson Designs.

Debo 06-24-2010 11:30 AM

I think it's perfect just the way it is. Just start sewing.

ann clare 06-24-2010 11:48 AM

Love it. Have not seen the slide show pattern before.

LeeAnn 06-24-2010 11:54 AM

I think it's beautiful just as is.

I try to keep up, but it's hard. People seem to be easily offended now-a-days!
:? Only reason I know about this one is that I've got a lot of Asian friends and they don't like the term oriental at all.

Fiber Artist 06-24-2010 01:08 PM

your cream colored fabric in the picture softens every thing nicly.

bronald 06-24-2010 01:10 PM

Love it! Love it! I really like white or light back grounds.

Thanks, I'm still going to make your Wedding Quilt, just looking for the right fabric.

Ladymurphy 06-24-2010 03:58 PM

My understanding from working with Asian children at school is that people are Asian and things are oriental.

Rachelcb80 06-24-2010 04:28 PM

Very pretty fabrics!!!

Regarding the political correctness of the term "oriental", the fabric companies must not be worried about being PC because these fabrics are most often labled or named "oriental".

Candace 06-24-2010 04:30 PM

Yeah, I'm just passing on what my buddies complain about;>

Pineapple Princess 06-24-2010 04:49 PM

I like it!

SandyMac 06-24-2010 05:14 PM

This is a a great quilt :D

amma 06-24-2010 06:31 PM

I love this quilt, the fabrics and the layout too!!!
Nice Work!!! :D:D:D

I shop in Asian markets that sell oriental fabrics, bric a brac, rugs, etc... and it is advertised as such. :D:D:D

sharon b 06-24-2010 06:52 PM

I think the black would make it too dark , just my opinion :?

Nice lay out

Your right, the black is way too dark. Today I really got to know my seam ripper, all those pieces have to be exact in size to go together right and I have a problem with my 1/4" seams, it was sew, rip and so on. When I turn my machine back on my needle moves and I forget to move it to the right place

littlehud 06-25-2010 07:34 AM

I like it just the way it is. It's just beautiful.

quilter2 06-25-2010 04:13 PM

Thanks everyone for looking and for your thoughts on the background fabric. I've decided to stick with the light fabric. Now all I have to do is piece it together.

This is beautiful! Is there a pattern or did you make it up?

quilter2 01-29-2011 03:13 PM

Thanks, the pattern is Slide Show by Atkinson Designs, bought it at my LQS, you can also order it online. I still didn't finish it.

TerryQuilter 01-29-2011 03:24 PM

:) I like it the way it is, it's beautiful.

PaperPrincess 01-29-2011 05:04 PM

I like it just as it is. I think the color of the background makes the whole quilt look soft and feminine. White, or especially black would also be fabulous, but the stark contrast would make a different statement.

I agree-don't forget to post new pics when all done

quilter2 01-30-2011 06:59 PM

Thanks everyone. I really need to try and finish this project but my daughter is having a baby in June and I want to start on a baby quilt, any ideas for a pattern for one?
